    Hi,
I'm having problems achieving similarily sounding kick and marching snare (?) sound as found in this example:
    http://picosong.com/MCgU

Somehow those samples are very familiar, but don't have a clue how to turn acoustic kick, large snare (is that it?) and bongo hit into that sounding groove. Don't have anything that "tight".
    Any ideas?

I don't know if this is of any help, but the kick is high pitched with lots of dampening, while the snare is piched quite low with no rattling from underneath (almost like a tom) and I'm under the impression that it's edited with a dense, short echo.

EDIT: Reminds me of the mid-80s synth drum sounds

    Thanks
That snare is just hit once somewhere in the middle of the loop. What follows straight after the kick is in my opinion african bongo. At least that was my first guess and when compared it does sound very close.
Would you know how to achieve that sort of signature?

Yeah, I think they used some horrible maybe open hh / crisp munching w/ snare to make it sound a bit moar snarey. They just made slightly weird choices w/ bongo being in (what would usually be) "snare" pos, creating simple b-beats; maybe that's why the confuse? It'll just be simple "avoidance" beats, when u look @ drum editor.

It's easy enough to find / make these sounds in Microtonic / whatevs. I think there's one that's called NE Acou Congo or smthn that's close enough. (They used few more kicks in the example u posted @Andrew , but I just wanted to make the whole "avoidance" thing clearer =)

They all sound like hand drums to me. Even the snare on the 1 and 3 sound like it's hit with a hand. And I think they're samples since I didn't notice a round robin. Just find whatever samples are close enough, because no amount of processing will get you the same exact timbre without the same exact samples.

Not looking for exact match, just close enough which would sit in the mix.

Actually it gets more complex throughout the song, there are at least 4 distinct patterns for that "bongo".

Wether exact match, nor close. But it might help you getting in the right direction?

EDIT: audiosex tries to autoconvert this link to a media item.

    EDIT2: 4bars, bpm 120.750 (as your snippet), 24bit wav
