I really laugh when people compare DAW in sound. For me it is important, the number of features, flexibility, and of course the policy of developers "For people, not for the money.

It is rather sad how little specialist knowledge some acquire. Those who know a little are cautious, those who don't know scream the loudest and then there is the category of self-promoters who no longer discuss at all, but only advertise their own DAW.

Yeah, coz just using Google doesn't always work, does it? :)
So I love that my refined knowledge comes from 'doing' for decades, rather than Googling for decades and learning nothing...

People argue over clothes, shoes, cars, operating systems etc. Why not DAWs?

Maybe you should use your brain and ask yourself where these things come from and who made them. Maybe you also think about the power supply. In short, they are willing consumers who no longer know any connections. Mild to moderate dumbing down.

Argueing like in 'talking' is a good thing, it's an exchange of experience and knowledge. Sadly, there're a bunch of people who prefer to fight and that's not constructive at all, just stupid.

the guy at whylogicprorules.com makes pretty good videos for site/yt. it's pretty clear which of these he knows more about (live loops is trash), but it is still way more than I would type :)

People argue about digital EQs. People just don't understand how certain things work and that ignorance tends to make people get emotional

Aside from the official Dolby thing and fancy plugins, Reaper has it all for sound editing, mixing and mastering. I think Logic is charming and I'd love to use it, I'd probably be using it if it wasn't an Apple exclusive.

Basically people are stupid. Let me elaborate on this concept:
    1. people with basic mentality need to feel that they belong. All the books on the topic eventually reach the conclusion that belonging is the easiest way for us to generate "feeel-good" hormones. There are other methods too, but they require a certail level of effort until they work and of course, people are not willing to put in the work. This need goes hand in had with 2.
    2. stupid people need other people to constantly (re)validate their choices. They make emotional choices most of the time, even when pure logic is enough to make a reasonable personal choice (because they lack critical thinking). Again, learning critical thinking requires effort so most people are not willing to put in the effort.

So you'll permanently have "label wars" between fans of smartphones brands, car brands, clothes brands, sports preferences, plugins, daws, analog, hardware, [insert here whatever you can think of]. You only see daw wars because thats your area of interest but in reality ie everywhere.

On the other hand, you have the (I don't want to say "evolved") "mentally-trained", "mentally-functional" people that know when to use the subjective (emotional) card and when to use the objective (logic reasoning) card. For these people the actions speak louder than the words and they rarely feel the need to show off or to actively make efforts to belong to a brand/club/society. Their satisfaction comes from the actual work done, not from what they could potentially do with their super fancy gear.

many years ago there where two daws all in all , the SSL console and some other , people wit plenty of $ prefered your studio if you had the $90k console

nowadays thankfully , thank god, life , kiss the sun the stars the galaxy your mothers and fathers ,the infinite , we can make good hits and tracks ITB (in the box - box pc) no need for anything at all

all these daws are mixing consoles , you apply the effect you want, the master or each channel volumes-faders,your sends your outs, occasionally you need to double vocals , you must remove that send the vocals on reverb , want the reverb only for some riser or drop keep it

sometimes for club bangers you redo-double your vocals or pitch tune a pad to accompany them

there isn't a daw nowadays that cant perform these functions ,so no need to worry juzz choose a daw that you like the most

    AGREED
    Well yes and no.
The entirely valid can of worms is the psychology discussion within your question
i.e., why are people still arguing about DAWS instead of just discussing pros and cons of features in an informative way?
So it's not really a DAW discussion - it''s more of a why do people argue discussion

The non-valid can of worms was the brief (and hopefully now terminated) digression into religion
(I plead guilty to having responded to that off-topic digression - I apologise)

But the valid psychology discussion was brought back on track immediately after my comment by @lxfsn here...
What @lxfsn said there has been said several times earlier in the thread, in one form or another, and it's still valid.

My regurgitating the same point would be: People are rarely interested in rational discussions, where they might learn something and/or change their minds. They only pay lip-service to the idea of being rational because they have figured out that rationality is supposed to be useful and it seems to earn brownie points if they pretend to know how to use it. But the minute any rationality contradicts their own pre-established prejudices, that rationality is tossed into the trash can as inconvenient.
People argue more to bolster their insecurities and try to feel better. Arguing in order to learn happens far less often.

    Sad really
    .

True, I should have made the title, DAW Wars, what do you like about your DAW of choice

I want to say 'disagree' - but only as a positive.
Pros and Cons of specific DAWs has been done to death in this forum.
It's almost like people are singing the same old song "It's all been said before - but not by me"
Your original question 'why are people still arguing...' actually adds something new (IMHO)
