    Hi Guys,

does anybody still works with Making Waves or used in the past?
    https://www.makingwavessoftware.com/

This is an old school DAW/Tracker which I would still use if it would run on Windows 10. Unfortunately the developer of this tool passed away and hence the development stopped :/
Does anybody have an idea if there is a similar tool like this? I don't need supersophisticated DAWs which confuse me more than kick of my workflow...

    Thanks :)

It kind of just looks like very early Fruity Loops. I would say that is probably your best bet.

Yes, I have tested version 5.42 on Windows 10 today with Compatibility Mode for Windows 7. It was running but it crashed once the explorer was used. Same applies for version 5.41 which I have tested, too.
All VST2 Plugins were discovered successfully.

Did you work with Making Waves in the past or was it just an experiment? What are you using now? Any idea which DAW/Tracker is most similar to Making Waves? Thanks.

Have you tried Renoise? I do everything entirely in Logic these days; but used fastTracker, dreamTracker, Modplug, etc. in years past and I have always been tempted to try it more than just a fast demo. It's a modern and still sort of developed tracker. Their last blog post is from a year ago, however. Do some research on that if you want.

https://www.renoise.com. It is 75$ for a license, which is in the Reaper kind of price range.
I haven't used it enough to "recommend" buying it outright. But I do think it might be the one you are looking for. I would not recommend FL to someone wanting to go back to a tracker. They are both considered lighter weight, less complex DAWs; but that's pretty much where the similarity with an old tracker ends.

    some intro video:

Someone using it for breaks editing etc.

Sometimes earlier compatibility modes might work better, worth to try..

Agree, thanks. I also tried Windows XP now which caused the same behaviour.

Yes. I worked with it in 1998-99 in conjunction w/ Fruityloops 1.5, Rebirth, Cakewalk and some others. I enjoyed the fact that you had control over the release of the sample per each sequence step. Something changed in future versions that I wasn't to keen about, but I can't remember what it was. Great program! Still have a couple of newer versions somewhere on my archive drives. If you ever find a way to make it work, shout it out in this thread along with the fix. :)

I mainly use FL Studio now for sequencing, and Reaper for sequencing, producing & mixing.

Try 95 compatability. Maybe install old retired VB and .net packages, etc too?

I used it for over 10 years for sequencing because the efficiency was great. I have done the arrangement in Soundforge Acid. I was always overwhelmed with the tons of options of the other DAWs.

I will keep trying to get it stable and will let you know if I was successful. BTW, I'm in contact with the "Vendor" I will ask him which VB and .net packages were required those days.

I asked the vendor which prerequisites MW 5.42 has. Any chance that you could try it own your PC? Would be nice to know, if you would face the same issue.
Again, it runs stable apart from the explorer issues. If I hit any of the red circled buttons it instantly crashes withount any error code. The blue circled dropdown is not an alternative as it crashes from time to time. Also without any error code. Just hanging and crashing afterwards.

    Thanks.

The Tracker market is unfortunately almost dead, which is ironic given the fact that DnB is currently having a massive comeback. Anyways, I'd also recommend Renoise, it's the best and most modern Tracker available right now.

Thanks. What is the relationship between the D&B Hype and the tracker exodus?

they have a fast workflow for making chopped up, glitched, and heavily edited breakbeats from samples. Hardware samplers and other studio gear were still relatively expensive, computers were still very slow , and light resources-demand programs like a tracker or FL don't really need a supercomputer to run acceptably.

Some others @OP you might want to check out are Jescola Buzz, AudioMulch, Geist v1 (people generally dislike v2). Maybe Acid could even be worth checking out.

What about @MuTools MuLab ? That is an inexpensive DAW also, and the developer posts on here sometimes. I think this one may be closer to MW.
