I def have to put my vote for EDISON in FL Studio its super simple, zooming in and out is fast and easy and making declicking edits on the start and end points of the detail area you are editing is quick, it has an adjustable sized window that you can click and move out of your way to your liking anywhere on the screen like sound forge, and you can just high light the area you want and then click on a small tab and drag the highlighted audio direectly into your project as a seperate audio file without any ctrl+c or ctrl+V hotkeys and it has a shitload of essential audio function (normalize, dc offset) and u can easily insert markers into the window and set them as seperate regions and then render each of those regions as a seperate wave file which i always find hella convenient (like if ive made a bunch of bass samples in a row all with seperate automations i can just hit record on edison let it play thru then hit autoslice render each reqion as a seperate file and bam quick and easy dozen samples all with the correct metadata root key and tempo) plus allows for its own automations and envelope controls in it as well just like an other automation lane would have in basically any DAW....FL studio OWNS as far as piano rolls, playlists, sequencers and freedom of movement is concerned....never feels claustraphobic....IMO....their plugins other than a small select few tho....meh.....

Cubase or Pro-Tools. Or Reaper, Studio One, Samplitude.

Hands down Samplitude, it does everything Wavelab and Soundforge combined, and has exellent sound.
This + every plugin you like without 3rd party bridging !

i am using Ableton together with GoldWave 6, i can launch Goldwave directly from Ableton. but Ableton does have a really good Audio Editor, you can do everything quick, only problem is that you cant load the edited audio directly into plugins, because Ableton uses some strange WAV-formats internal, which cant be read by most plugins. so you have to save the project to get a readable wav-file.

i am using GoldWave since ages and it does the job for me.
