I don't backup anything for some long time, I had problems with my PC and... ... I didn't learn anything.
But in my case, everything is still here. I have only few USB Flash Drives ( 32 GB) and that's it.
Sometimes, less you worry about it, maybe better are chances that everything ends ok. If your data is meant to stay/ long live  then it will be.

    ...anyway, what I know...

Just don't worry, enjoy in life as much as you can!
    Wish you to recover first!

Thats why i have 100's of 10 year old cdr's and dvdr's that are just fine, have never had a "glue failure"
Some of my cdr's date back to 1995-1996 and are still perfectly readable...
Only thing i have ever seen make a cd or dvd unreadable is scratches/physical damage.

Thanks Evorax for sharing. It is an alert call. This can and will happen to everyone. Yesterday I headed to the computer parts store and made the long-delayed purchase of another drive. This weekend I'll be backing important projects. It's my third backup.

Best of all to you. You bit the bullet and decided to make the best of the situation. It takes a great person to do that.

    Respect,

    Carlos

I had the same issue with my internal HD 1GO Western Digital.
One day it started to ckick and windows would not recognise it as a secondary drive.
I was unable to open save the files a.s.o.
I bought an "all in HDD Docking"

    http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=all+in+HDD+Docking

I connected the dock (with this defecting HD) to that same pc and it recognise that HD.
I can't anwser why it works on a dock and why it doesn't being internal.
it just what happened to me and hope this might help

Millenniata's M-DISC should last for 1000 years, but who knows...? :)
And the discs are more expensive than normal media (32.49 USD for 10 DVDs on Amazon).
