God... I never felt so depressive... :(
In the morning I was moving some new projects from one partition to another and.... BANG... the computer freezed in the moving process and it was looking like just wanted a forced restart (pressing the button), I did that and when it rebooted, my internal storage drive started clicking in a loop... like It couldn't start normally...
I was shocked... :wow: and wanna know why? Because a week ago my backup external hard-drive got fucked up too... and I tried to format it, erasing everything on it because it was freezing everytime I tried to copy somethin' from it or to add something on it and when I saw that just can't be fixed, I sent it to a specialized company that recover the files, but on the diagnostic they told me that they've found the ex-harddrive empty (I guess the formatation succeeded when I tried to do it) but... the worse now... the internal storage drive that I've got all my projects, personal fx chains, personal presets... man... everything... got lost in this morning...

And now... other worse news is the fact that the recovery costs me around 800 euros here, which I can't afford it... because all my living was based on mixing/mastering tasks and production.. Even today I had to get 400 euros from a good client, but I had also to send him the rendered .wav master of a instrumental, which is actually lost with the hard drive... I'm like... destroyed man...

I don't ask for anything from you guys, if you think that's the reason of this topic... but not! I just wanted to be heard... because I couldn't tell this to anybody...
I live alone, like a lone wolf, no parents help, no girlfriend, nothing...! So I apologize if I loaded your time with my bad situation... but I just wanted to be heard...

I feel for ya man... hope some silver lining can come out of this. I, Myself try to have triple backups of my important stuff, but, it can get overwhelming too.

That's one of the reasons I'm using cloud storage these days for the most important files.

That's one reason for me to backup on HTL Blu-Ray discs.
It's a lot more expensive, but the media lasts forever.
    $3 for 25GB

    Just for future reference

Not the best recovery company it seems. If you just format a HD normally, all the data is still there unless you overwrite it. So unless you erased your hd with special tools which overwrite every sector a dozen times, data still should be there and can be recovered even with freeware.

If the internal electronic system is damaged, a professional company could still recover the data on the HD platters. But of course it's an expensive job as you know.

I have stored my production data in at least three different places, online and different Harddrives to prevent any data loss at all - and I lost HDs before as well.

Not always, once partition table is altered, the data cannot be recovered. Happened to me on my just finished storage HDD

That situation sucks... Loosing projects, you setup, everything is just horible.

But dont give up! You still have your internal hard drive, and you didnt formated it. So you can access your files, it could be a bit complex for somebody who dont know much about that kind of stuff, but its possible. YOu just need another PC (which I guess you have since you wrote this topic, unless you use a smartphone or something), and connect your internal hard drive (there are adapters for that if you cant do that via USB). Then just follow a good tutorial, right at the moment I dont know a good english one, sorry...
But 800 € for a recovery is just insane!

If you have problems with the process, try to contact a friend who is into those nerdy stuff, perhabs he can assist. If you dont have any friends with those computer skills, register to an online-forum for PC geeks and post your problem. Properly they will be pissed because you startet a topic which has been started by other before, but there you should get help.

I hope you can recover everything! Your story told us even having a backup isnt save enough... But who the hell can do it via cloud storage? Saving several hundreds of GB online??? DOnt that cost really much, and needs a long time to upload?

Bummer. Has happened to me many many times now in the fifteen years I have had home computers. I keep important stuff on an external hard drive. A 2 TB HD now costs 75 bucks on Amazon.

Damn... I grabbed some beers... because I need to drink a lot man... feels like I broke up with a lover... because to me the music business was everything which helped me to live from it... but it's ok... I had a few saved bucks and I ordered a new 2TB SSHD from Seagate... I will spend all my Christmas money on this new hard drive... because I have an idea...

I will try to compose new songs, i'll send them to the clients to sell some... and when I raise enough money... i'll try to find a better company, to open my internal faulty hard drive and recover my data from the plates. Damn... all these holidays just got turned into hell off a hard work... but at least... I love to do this... so I don't have why to complain...

I really appreciate your opinions guys, you already making me feel better...

Yes, I have a separate internal HD, but only for the OS, Daw, plugins and softsynths(I mean.. already installed), that's why I was able to post on the forum.. :(

Most discs ie CD,dvd & bluray have about 3 years life before the integrity of the glue goes. Thats for the one that burn in, pressed ones (like retail cds and films) last a lot longer but I don't think any here has that sort of money for a disc press.

The internal storage HD just making crackle and clicks noise so it seems a mechanically problem (the guy from that company told me on the phone that I should unplug the HD permanently till I fix it properly, because the more it clicks and crackle.. the more get damaged...

When I restarted the computer, it didn't booted into windows until I removed the faulty drive... because it was like the whole computer was waiting for that faulty drive to start... but it was making loud crackles and clicks like it tried itself to start over and over again in a loop with no success, so I had to remove it to be able to keep using the computer... But tell me guys... do you think the cloud storage is a good option?

I will go on and keep doing what I know... because as long as I'm still able to do music... then I will keep doin' it.. The hard shit you face makes you harder as well. Because my mentality is like... the harder I get hit... the harder I become...

    Glue?
Only DVDs and Blurays are glued together from two polycarbonate discs.
Also I don't think glue is the issue here.
There is deterioration on the reflective layer, based on its properties, but not in that limited timeframe.
I said HTL Blu-ray (not LTH), which uses non-organic recording layer (brands Sony, Panasonic, JVC) in contrast with organic layer used in LTH Blu-rays (Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden), Cyanine CDs and DVDs

Evorax, if there's nothing you can do, don't worry about it. If you are musician, and I'm sure you are, you can always create something even better than what was saved on that HDD. :mates:

Seems like a text book headcrash - I had that with several drives, and I never was able to recover the data with the usual software tools, or connecting to another PC, or low-level-formatting or whatever, sorry to say that. :dunno:

Last drive I lost had a controller issue - I was able to use it some days, and could collect the data before it went completely.

    WOW!

When shit happens it usually REALLY happens.

I know this sounds clichéd Bro, but things will sort themselves out. We just have to try and not let our minds run away with all of the bad and negative situations.

Like I said, hard to hear when you are the one going through the shit, but, things ALWAYS get better.

Did you read what I wrote when I started the topic entirely? My Internal storage drive got fucked up this morning before receiving the new ordered external drive for backing up my internal storage drive again(which I should've get it tomorrow), but I canceled the order when I saw that I lost even the internal storage data (and I made a new order now, buying a new internal HD, to start composing some new songs to be able to raise money again to be able to fix all of this shit, because my ordinary backup option was the external drive)
