I like it, was able to dial in a great sounding kick in minutes. I kinda prefer knobs to visual envelopes. Makes me rely more on the sound of the kick then the look of the envelope.

Man we are polar opposites in that. To each his own - Some people are visual learners, some are not. The envelope's position doesn't exactly correspond to the waveform in Kick 2, but I like to know what's going on with it. Another reason the envelope great though is because you can do obviously some pretty cool variations, or just make something entirely different from kicks.

Anyway, I haven't tried Punchbox but I took a good long look at the interface and all the options it offers. Very cool plugin for sure. Obviously the knobs are a boon for getting a quick result. If both were released at the same time, I still would've bought Kick 2 though. I like the level of control. Here's I see the advantages:

Punchbox: bitcrusher, stereo width, lots of distortion types, quicker/simpler workflow, additional filter, analog modeled waveforms

    - Am I missing something or does it not have a compressor?

Kick 2: additive control over harmonics/waveforms, deeper control in general, free amp envelopes for all samples/sub, broader pitch range for click samples (! this one is huge from a sound design perspective IMO), way better EQ module, uncluttered interface

Hmmm... do you just want the kick to be shorter one hit, longer the next? I had a similar mindfuck about Kick 2 until someone at SA pointed out the Gate button at the top of the UI. Even better - it's just based on how long you hold the key.

For anything else, you could always expor the sample, which I imagine Punchbox must be able to do as well.

D16 had great guis for the rest of their stuff, iMO. And yeah I think they're going for that '500' series hardware modular setup. But its ugly. hold on let me look again... Nope. Still ugly

  7. I tried this out for a few seconds yesterday and I was thoroughly impressed. Every preset that I auditioned was killer and for me tweaking was fast and intuitive. Between Punchbox, Kick2 and Bazzism, the world is getting a quality ass-kicking.

I love punchbox . I wasn't to keen on it just as another kick plug but once I found how to import my own sounds Into it I find it great You don't have to just use it as a kick machine I've spent half a day just importing a stack of bass and lead sounds into it . Once you get into using your own sounds the tweak ability is endless fun . The export function is great too I go straight from punchbox into the Kontakt sampler . I think it would be good if you could play the patches you make in different notes instead of having to export the patch and load it into a sampler , rob papers punch is the same . That's my only criticism with it apart from that I love it.

Edit I've found out how to do it there's a switch called key track in the kick module . With it selected it changes the note tone on your midi keyboard no need to run the samples back into Kontakt now This is one of my favourite purchases this year
