PM me after Xmas. I can give you my whole Reaper config (theme + menus + prefs + workspace etc. etc.) = everything ready to go. I'm a former Cubase user - I know what you're talking about. :)

Simple, you adapt it to your needs. And if a -6dB pan law meets your needs, then you just use -6dB. No matter which DAW.
I do think that there should be such customization options. But you have one point here: That there should be a default standard that is used across the board is and has been demanded by many people.
Audio engine? No, interpolation/pitch algorithm! And this is a customizable setting in most DAWs. BTW, doesn't matter for recording anyway.
Well, your statement is not an argument. Especially since you contradict yourself several times in one post. But you are right. It's no use arguing against it, because it's like explaining to the flat earther that the earth is an oval. The flat earther will stick to his opinion and reject all scientific evidence with the reason that he knows better.

    It's such a deep topic.
it is not a subject to talk about in forums.
I have had these talks with the creators of house and techno music. i will leave it at that

it's just people don't know the actual history.
quite a lot of people think house music was created by Swedish house mafia.

it all comes back to Chicago at the beginning

THEY DON'T SOUND THE SAME!! THE FACT THAT YOU CAN ADJUST THEM TO YOUR NEEDS DOESN T MEAN THEY SOUND THE SAME, IT MEANS YOU CAN MAKE THEM SOUND THE SAME,S IT SO DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND, EVEN FOR PEOPLE WHO CLAIM TO MAKE MUSIC AND NEVER TOUCHED AN INSTRUMENT IN THEIR LIFE?
YOU CAN PICK A WOMAN WITH SMALL BOOBS AND TAKE HER TO A SURGEON TO GET THEM THE SIZE YOU WANT, DOES IT MEAN THAT EVERY WOMAN HAS THE SAME BOOB SIZE AS LONG AS THEY GET SURGERY?
    Enough with this crap

I'm sure both DWAs are great and highly usable to those who take time to learn to love them. So thumbs up for both. :like:
    BUT

I think one of Reapers strenghts - being fully customizable - is at the same time its weakness as it seems a lot of their userbase is lost more in customizing Reaper than making music. :bleh:

Cubase on the other hand is more the DAW for thinking of themselves being the old boys claiming "we have always done it this way and we will continue to do it this way" and who don't care about the $100 they need to update Cubase for minor enhancements every year.

Really, why do we care. It's just a tool. Everyone should use the tool that suits him best.

And now: Happy holidays everyone regardless of OS or DAW :mates:

Here is a Pro Tip! aka Alpha knowledge.

Pick out a daw, learn and use it.
Pick another daw, learn and use it.
Pick another daw, learn and use it.
Repeat this process until you master the daw.
and you will not ask stupid questions. You will have an Answer.

    Pro Tip #2
Pick out a daw, learn and use it.
    master the daw.

    In either situation
Ignore trendy B.S., Ignore idiot Youtubers
Notice I wrote master not masterbate.

    that depends
    he could be a masturbater
he could be a pro at it, so masterbater
either way no progress with a daw.

No, i am telling you it's irrelevant to your knowledge of daws.

I have never asked anyone what daw they use.
None of really ask each other what daw to use. it's a process of figuring on your own.
we just use a daw or hardwar/both and/or ask advice

I am more interested in how someone uses it.
    like these.

A friend of mine for the past 15+/- years has only used Fruity Loops and stock only plugins.
    1,000+ Tracks and Re-mixes. (30 year career)
consistently on Beatport top 10/100. touring and signed to top agency. It blew my mind when he told me
he only uses v5 fruity loops and stock only.
This guy is a House Legend

2 friends had a group and used Reason to do live acts in the same way as you would use Ableton.

Another friend uses Fruit loops to play drum n bass
dj/live. blew my mind both the idea of a liveset and his production proficiency.

    another uses Cubase for livesets.

another uses fruity loops and ableton
writes a track bounce to audio then deletes the project files. I asked why? he told me to keep moving forward.
not dwelling on the idea of endless edits.
This guy is a House/Techno music legend.
people in Europe or everywhere actually always try to copy his music style.

    see the pattern?
knowing your tools and making Shit happen.
I could be here all day writing how and what or who.

after more than 10 years in FL STUDIO making music for fun, i came to REAPER this year.

since a few years ago, i started to be unbearable FL STUDIO's unusual CPU performance usage, and the PDC not really sync issue coming from nowhere killed my sidechain a lot of times.
my CPU in FL STUDIO is old and slow like Intel Pentium D, just adding a few usual plugins, the CPU usage is going close to half, and i haven't even started doing heavy FX and mixing that shit.

i almost want to use hundreds of dollars to buy a new CPU sometimes, but every time i ask myself, will it be worth it just to make music for fun? of course NO!
so, i can only try to compress my project. use as few plugins as possible.
earlier this year, i was tired of doing this every fucking time, then i download ABLETON LIVE and REAPER to try, give my old CPU a last chance in another DAW.
after simple also usual touch test, i deleted ABLETON LIVE and stay in REAPER.

whether you believe it or not, seems REAPER used evil magic to bewitch me, or a miracle happened on my computer, every time i open REAPER, my "Intel Pentium D" don't know why it became Intel Core i9-999999K. add the same usual plugins as in FL STUDIO i do start a new project, that CPU usage is just so FUCKING LOW, maybe 5%-7% CPU usage, 50% usage compared in FL STUDIO.

when i saw this coming, i don't know how to say, mindblown.
team R2R talked that developers unscrupulously used heavy code to prevent FL STUDIO from cracking. i love image line give FL studio lifetime free updates, FL studio has many features and plugins i love, but this wrong way is not the reason at that moment i pay for FL studio.

i did not try CUBASE yet, but REAPER was light and customizable i'm already satisfied.
FUCK YOU image line, my lover was REAPER now!

btw, if you think REAPER's UI was shit, you can try this theme i'm using now:

However, the question of which DAW is the best (for the respective application purpose) is justified. I also know people who produce great music with FL. But FL is primarily designed for loop-based music. Recording and mixing a band in FL is possible, but not a joy. There are other DAWs that are better suited and where this process is easier and faster to accomplish. I wouldn't recommend FL to someone who works with bands.

Thanx for your explanation, very interesting.
My interest is about what you can do with one daw and what you can’t.
I started using cubase a long time ago. Then tested other daws and finally I’m using Reaper, why?
2 reasons basically : CPU usage and routing posibilíties.
And I can open various proyects at the same time … try to do the same in pro tools …

    thanx for sharing your experience.

    Merry Xmas :guru:

Denying/refusing to accept the evident, cold, and factual scientific truth of a Null Test tells us a lot about you..

It's like saying that your Texas Instruments calculators will sum 1+1 better than our Casios..

Fact of the matter is, all things being Equal,
most DAWs will Null when Rendering a bunch of audio files together.

    That is a hard fact,
and it has been proven many times..

However the sound will obviously differ if:
You're using different Pan Laws, and actually Panning the tracks
Using different engine bit-depth, like 32bit vs 64bit Mixing, and actually changing volume/pan values
Using modulation FX like Reverbs etc, these will never null
    Using Envelopes to automate Volume/Pan
Dithering or Noise shaping algos are applied
    etc..

    But that's to be expected..

You need to compare apples with apples,
but you cannot say that DAWs sound different because they have different Default Settings.. doh

Adjust them to be the Same, or as close as possible,
and you will get a Total, or very close null > it's that simple.

Now seeing how dis-informed, stubborn and easily triggered you are, when defending such an indefensible point..
I'm pretty sure you gonna keep on ranting, and spitting all that bile.. well be our guest

But that will only serve to further prove we're right..

    Come to us with Facts,
Prove it, and then we will listen, and probably have a more fruitful conversation..

But saying fanatic hozza-balooza like that,
and getting angry/triggered when ppl disagrees with it > is just ridiculous.

It's like those ppl who will say that Macs sound better than PCs,
even playing the same audio file with the same Audio Interface!

I've met one like that, and he was as convinced as you are. :dunno:

I guess placebo effect can be very strong in some..

Reaper is better thought out DAW, being newer and learning from competition, it just is, although rather intriguing,
it's impossible for Cubase to reach such level of flexibility and functionality, I wouldn't hesitate to say if Hans Zimmer started later, he'd go Reaper for its incredible user customizability he had hard time achieving in Cubase years back,

overall Cubase isn't bad DAW either, but for its price it's no match for Reaper - unless you really do use all the additional content provided with by Steinberg

I started years back on Cubase 3, then Cubase 5, then Sonar, and finally now I'm on Reaper, best choice I ever made
    :chilling:
