@Von_Steyr yeah finally got it.. after about 6-7 tries...

Installed, but takes a long time to start up, hangs... but just cracking the surface on it now.
Seems a bit cumbersome to figure out audio routing, and also getting an effect on a track...
but this is the learning curve I suppose

one thing seems silly, if you are going to have a "virtual keyboard" why not just have a graphical keybed pop up,
instead of abbreviated qwerty. +1 for Reaper the virtual keyboard pops up a set of black and whites.

 

Hm,you might take a look at the cmc-ch,steinberg controller for cubase.You can get em cheap used on ebay.
Makes things a lot easier.
Regarding cubase itself.
There are shortcuts on each channel and channels can be custoumized(view).
Hit the e button on a channel and then channel settings open and then you can add an fx as insert
First six inserts are pre fader,last two are post.You will also notice you have the option to EQ each channel without the need to insert an additional EQ,saves cpu and lots of time.Its a transparent EQ,but if you need more you can still add other EQs.
Also notice fast LP and HP filters,just swing it left/right with your mouse.
Theres also a channel strip,nice stuff,comes handy sometimes.

Yea,lots of info but once you get the essential stuff it will get a lot faster.
Its worth it.
Also watch YT videos on cubase 7 and 8 also regarding the mixer and the view.
Cubase also has a control room and all new loudness meters that many daws are missing.
