Nope. It depends on the seller. I got my copy quite some time ago. Didn't even have to provide an .edu email address (which is the stipulation for most retailers). Basically, if the retailer will ship it to you, you are golden. Some retailers are more strict than others on what their policy is.

 

it depends on the retailer online or in store, i got Cubase 6 educate at a shop . a friend who was a student at the time bought it for me with only his student ID. no registration or anything tying this copy to him, I installed and registered in my name and Upgraded no problem the only thing with EDU version is you can not transfer the licence as you can with the retail version to another person. Other then that its exactly the same as the full retail version. if its a great price and not just an update and you want it id say go for it. FYI updating cost the same for everyone, there is no edu versions of updates.

 

when i was in college i had access to all microsoft product for free. office-windows7-everythang. tha was the only good part there. then i quit and i'm using audioz and torrentz.eu for everything else hahh

But a friend has to buy it. He is still a pupil.
Can he buy, get all links and stuff and keys, and i can install and activate?
And will the key work forever, so that i can install it in 2 years again?

And should i wait till 8.5?

I had 8.5 installed and was having nothing but trouble on windows 10. so went back to 8.1 & Cubase 8-0-30 and back to stable happiness... might try 8.5 again on Win 8,1 as im thinking part of the indue might have been my Motu interface. waiting for my new Presonus VSL to get here.

 

You just need to scan a document that proves you are student . Document should show education years . Any universty gives document for it. Then you will send to seller, that's all . EDU version is same original and update rights too but you wont get any discount for updates in the future.

 

Buy it on ebay, they will not ask you any proof. that's what i did.

 

Depends on where you get your copy. I didn't need proof of anything.

To the OP, it's a point of sale thing, they should ask you for an enrolment letter, you could say you've lost it and just scan a university letter then re-write it..
