Steinberg Twelve was my first 'DAW', but never got along with Cubase.. this seems a nice opportunity, but no, I rather stay with what I alrready use. Thanks for letting us know!

Im willing to try this, downloading the 21 gbs now

very exited to see the audio editing, and if it has a "real jog wheel" - if no "real jog wheel" = its out

Just bought Pro 10. Actually I don't have enough money for this, but I had an upgradeable Cubase AI Key which makes it even cheaper, still need to lend a little money from my... mother... And the next month will be a little harder than usual maybe hahaha. At least I'm a legit responsible producer now, who has some fancy looking self-paid DAW. Hopefully the switch from FL Studio to Cubase won't be too much for me

Before paying a Cubase upgrade, it might be worth waiting for what Presonus comes up with the 21st of May.
Perhaps a new shiny Studio One update with expression maps, visibility agents and the like? If not, Steinberg will probably get my money.

Good day ladies and gentlemen! Does anyone know if the upgrade trick (buy and wait till the next update) be true?

Yes, it's true. Not really a trick btw, Steinberg themselves confirmed in their forum this is possible. So, wait for 10.5)

Apparently, if one really wants to cut costs one can buy *.5 upgrades only and activate them during the grace period for 1.0 versions, which ends up being 49EUR every 2 years. You don't get to use 1.0 versions when they come out though. If you can patiently wait a year to get all the new features, this is a rather great strategy to keep your Cubase up to date in a way.

    EDIT:
Actually, i made a mistake here. You DO get to use 1.0 versions. You bought 0.5 update for the previous version and you're getting the next 1.0 for free if you activate the 0.5 update during the 1.0 grace period (so sorry for not explaining this better). So, essentially, at that point, you have a choice of using the new 1.0 or older 0.5v. What you don't get to use is the new 0.5v once it comes out cause you have to wait for the next 1.0 grace period which is in a year. But that is the price of saving 50eur yearly.

I don't use Cubase nor do I need it at the moment, but since it's on a nice sale + also got a useless LE license collecting dust, I'm thinking of upgrading it to a Pro 10 License for 224 EUR, just in case feeling the urge of using it in the future. My question to the fine gentlemen here is:

If I were to buy Cubase Pro 10 now, but would activate it much later, say during the grace period in 2022, would I then still be eligible to update it to Cubase Pro 12 for free, or can one update the current license only to the next version for free during the grace period?

I would pour this money down my throat anyway this weekend for no good reason at all, only to be left with hollow memories & a sore wiener, so I might as well enjoy a nice water diet for a couple of days & have this beautiful GUI grace me with it's presence for the rest of my days.

Was hoping to crossgrade but I have FL Studio Producer and they want FL Studio Signature.
Never even heard of FL Studio Signature and I paid 199 US for Producer.

I could only guess - If you were to wait and activate it in 2012, I presume you would still only get 10.5 extra for free. But I'm really not sure.

WOW, I ignored that chords feature for as long as I know about it. I thought it's an entry level thing for younglings, didn't have a clue that it's so amazingly capable and useful. Thank you for this post! Now I have to go through all the videos!

About to buy it crossgrade but in the end it is just another tool to create music I already make. Though I am very tempted. Also the dongle was the deal breaker.

Since I already saved around 100€ by staying home last night, I upgraded the old LE license to Pro. I think I'll activate it when 10.5 comes out. I'm kinda eager to see if it stands up to the hype created by countless Cubase warriors around the webs. I kinda expect it to be capable of doing most tasks one can do with Reaper, but don't really expect it to outperform Reaper in any way. If it will, I'll welcome it & fully embrace the surprise. If nothing else, at least it looks prettier to me, and I've got a weak spot for those little things, even they are the ones often responsible for draining the wallet, but that's just the caveman poking out sometimes, complying with the...pretty things.

I did fiddle with the Airy version of Cubase back in the day, it was pretty cool & capable, but nowhere near the level of Reaper. On a side note, it has always felt very akward to me creating programmed music with Reaper, where Ableton & FL Studio are just magical for that & they often spark wicked ideas out of nothing. I wonder if anyone really is comfortable creating programmed music with Cubase, mostly electronic that is, not just sound design/scores. At least Junkie XL & Celldweller do just fine. Reaper is awesome for recording, mixing & mastering, and I'm pretty confident Cubase 10 is/will be awesome at the same very things. Thanks to @Jazz-N-Stuff for useful links, bookmarked all :)

Thinking about going for it too due to the sale.

Has anyone got an old forgotten LE license to give away?
I had one but i gave it away long time ago.

Upgrading from one of those it would cost me a little less (which is nice)

this is another must watch for new Cubase users 2 hrs but it gives u an impression how long it will take to even understand all the Plugins and usability out of the box( i mean the totally underrated STOCK plugins!)

and here a tip: u need the Dongle as an extra, its abt 25$ buy one now in any Online shop, install the 30 days free CUBASE 10 pro trial at once, check it, and decide between 1-2 June to make an online buy at Steinberg (they give you the legitimation key to use with the elicenser key).
If you dont need the Dongle u still can use it to test Vienna Ensemble Pro, and in worst case just sell it afterwards.
Maximum LOSS is 25$ but u have a lot of new Input abt the Cubase Myth...

Great Idea. I still have my Pro 7 dongle and yes it has been worth more to me than Cubase. Yes I do hate Dongles but for the licenses that need to be stored on it it's great.

    Finally!
Shipping was delayed since Steinberg seem to have had a ton of new orders due to the discount.
