I want to export one selected midi but after doing that and importing that midi into a new project, it creates a bunch of mdid tracks from the previous session and well as other midi files. I want to import just one midi file to a track , can any one tell what the issue might be?

EDIT: Please ignore the AI hallucinates!

It sounds like you're trying to export a single MIDI track from Cubase 14, but when you import the file into a new project, Cubase is bringing in multiple MIDI tracks from the previous session instead. This is a common issue when using the wrong MIDI export method.

Here’s what’s likely going wrong and how to fix it:

    Problem
You're likely using File > Export > MIDI File..., which exports all MIDI tracks from the session by default — even if you have only one track selected.

Solution: Export Only the Selected MIDI Track
Follow these steps to export just the MIDI from one track:

Method 1: Use the "Export > MIDI File..." dialog carefully
    1. Select the MIDI part you want to export in the timeline (not just the track header).

    2. Go to File > Export > MIDI File…

    3. In the dialog box that appears:
      • Make sure "Export Locator Range" is checked.

      • Make sure the left and right locators are set around the MIDI part you want to export.

      • Uncheck "Export Inspector Patch" and other options that might carry global session data.
    4. Name and save your MIDI file.
This will export only the MIDI inside the locator range — not the whole session.

Method 2: Drag and Drop to Desktop (Quickest)
    1. Select the MIDI part you want in the track.

    2. Drag the selected part directly from the Cubase timeline to your desktop or folder.
      • This creates a .mid file with just that part.
✅ When Importing into New Project
When you import the MIDI into a new session:

    • Use File > Import > MIDI File…

    • Cubase may still prompt you to create multiple tracks based on the MIDI channels — choose “Import to single track” if that’s an option.
    Tips to Avoid Extra Data
    • Avoid exporting from Project > Export > MIDI File without adjusting the settings.

    • MIDI files can contain tempo, marker, and other global data, so watch out for those settings during export.
Let me know if you'd like screenshots or a step-by-step for a specific version (Cubase Elements, Artist, or Pro).

Select all events on the track, Solo the track, export to midi file as you did before.

How could you even post this when it contradicted itself in the first few sentences, and then later had the audacity to suggest an option that "might" be there? Like, what use is conjecture in this situation?

It sounds like you managed to save a lot of other stuff with your original export. However, Go to "preferences" and under MIDI/MIDI File you will find a bunch setting for controlling both Import and Export of midi files. You might want to play around with some of the setting in here to get the desired outcome. I would hazard a guess and say Change the default destination form Halion Sonic to midi tracks. and try import dropped file as single part.

And don't forget to set the left and right markers for the correct export length.

That's if you want, it's not necessary.
