Does anyone know if Cubase 12 (the legitimate version) requires the SIP to be turned off or is it just the version on the sister site?

The legitimate version works regardless of SIP status, while the sister needs SIP off

 

I wonder why the sister site needs SIP off

 

No need to do any changes with legit. SIP is switched of to bypass Authorization manager.

 

I know there are a lot of debates around SIP, some saying it is dangerous to turn it off and others that say it gives you a lot more control

 

Dangerous is too strong of a statement. I am not sure I would even go as far as "Risky". You have a firewall, and do not download things from random untrusted sources anyway. I wouldn't disable it just for fun; but if I needed to for good reason, I wouldn't worry about it either.

 

Well, I am debating installing Cubase 12, as I have some old Cubase files that I never finished. So...I don't know...do I or don't I?

 

I certainly would do it. I would finish those projects, and then re-enable it. But I also always have a valid/current Time Machine backup. Make a firewall rule for Cubase to make sure it is corralled in, maybe add Steinberg's domains in your hosts file.
