I have found the HALiON stuff sounds okay, but the user interface is just horrible!!

thats normal for Steinberg. When i check their unbalanced size of things. I mean there are icons, which feel like 5x5 pixel size next to stuff, which is to big. I get now what people wrote in the other topic.

I guess you have to get properly used to the Steinberg way of doing GUIs.

Still glad we can finally use Cubase, after 12 long years ... <3
Will come in handy to load all these freaking old Trance Xperience Tutorials from 2004 :rofl:Should suit the GUI design Steinberg Cubase has! Anyway people still use and love it. (For real i recently started to work through the tutorials again with Cubase SX3 by AiR.)

i actually don’t mind the rest of their layout in Cubase, I really dont, it’s just the way they do instruments, it’s bloody a shit show!

i hope you like using it anyway, I think it’s great, but if you already have a workflow in another DAW, you will probably just go back to that anyway unless there is something you have always wanted to be able to do in Cubase.

i wanted to try Cubase again, last version i really touched was the epic 3.11 release by AiR, which as i wrote i recently installed again.

Hmm i am not sure, if i will ever use it.
Maybe i can use some of the instruments somewhere else? Since everything has now VST3.

It is all I have ever used properly, just fits me.

I would say there is better out there than the Steiny stuff if you are using another daw, it’s nothing exceptional to my ears.

XD I don't think that's possible! I can't fully get comfortable with their FrankenSteinberg way of doing random, stiched together GUIs.
    I think it's somebody's idea of a joek; Wilhelm scream or w/e?

Idc what they have to say about this. V.R was the only one who tried and spent his time over the last years to give us now a legit Cubase Pro version in this form. I'm so thankful that he didn't give up despite all those R2R fanbois who where talking bad all the time. Kudos for still doing this with that awful situation in Ukraine right now. Was there a few years ago and what a beautiful country and legit people. Whoever you are V.R = STAY SAFE ❤️

If and when I start to make any money from my music, that is the VERY first thing I intend to do.

Me too AS. It's always been one of my favourite plugins.

    Unbelievable....

The dongle for Cubase is finally gone!!!
But you still have to carry it around if your Drum VST of choice is Groove Agent.....

Is the dongle still required for SE version of vsts? if thats the case, we can just use the normal (pro) versions of these using b25 antitrial by VR. They dont require a dongle and are better than SE versions.

Did you ever try Studio One?

Tried S1 for the same weird gui, there are parts where they wasted so much space and all the clicking to reach stuff, maybe im just spoiled by Live?
If i had to choose another daw, it would probably reaper, only thing there which i find wild and strange is the media browser, but maybe u can set that to play on hitting an audio file?

Is there any good daw on windows which can handle youtube videos, alias x264 with aac? Live had huge problems on windows with that, i mean they want u to only install Haali codec pack, which hasnt been updated since 2013? Wtf.
Is cubase maybe a solution there?

It is weird that steinberg didnt offer a trial/ demo version, ableton does that on the same day often, other immediate. Maybe it comes later? I guess we would never tried cubase, if steinberg had not gave up their hardware dongle?

You stay with Ableton, you're an Ableton guy. I'll stick with Studio One, I'm a Studio One guy. I just opened up Studio One's video player and loaded a video from YouTube, see the image below.

"Horses for courses" as the cliche goes.
If you know how to use Cubase and customize it there is no wasted space. You can split it up as much as you want, as well as the mixing desk.
Each person has different needs and will choose the DAW that works best for them. getting comfortable with anything makes transition to a different system and layout sometimes awkward or seem strange, or just too different but that is normal.

The software is irrelevant. It's like a car, it is the driver that makes it kick ass to its fullest potential, not the car.
