See, this was my suspicion, that it's a "bog simple" (though smartly orchestrated) saturation algorithm. Cheers to TDR yet again

i think Aroma plugin, from ploytec, is a better, more modern take on this if im not mistaken.

Not, Aroma is based on Crane Song HEDD. Triode, Pentode and Tape Saturation. It's a great tool, especially the tape saturation (Aroma, on this case). Way better the Phoenix, more modern and... cheaper.

What they also do is fire up some plugin they do not actually use for the sake of a video. After the video is done, all the hidden hardware flips and moves back into place with the touch of a button. It's like the Bat Cave. So many transparent "product placements", guys trying to explain plugins they have never even seen before.

The most funny moment ever was a video where Stuart White (Beyonce mixer) told he prefers R-Verb from Waves than f*cking Bricasti. I just put a hand on my head because i wasnt believing what i was hearing. "Bricastis sound lush and beautiful but this one has a vibe i like more" :trashing:

but i swear i don't want to frustrate anyone's dream that a 29$ plugin sounds better than a 5k$ unity

I've attached the file to this post. It's a plain text file. Simply remove the ".txt" extension and place it into Reaper's effects folder, or utilize the JS2VST wrapper.

It's a quote from his post on Telegram:

The plugin is a rather simple saturator working mainly with high frequencies. Saturation curves in the original plugin are set in tabular form (because the hardware is very weak to calculate complex dependencies). The functions are trigonometric, but in JSFX plugin I decided to approximate them with polynomial functions (as a result 7 or 9 odd harmonics are added depending on the mode). There is no oversampling, obviously.

On the bad side, the plugin gives different sound at different sampling frequencies. In particular, like Waves L2, it doesn't distinguish between 44.1/48, 88.2/96 and 176.4/192. I would fix this, but it's not clear which mode to take as a reference.

In addition, there is hard clipping in the saturation algorithm when going out of bounds, so the plugin cannot be "reused".

In the original plugin, the more "Process", the louder the sound becomes (louder is better). At this point I ran out of patience and added a simple auto-gain compensation to the JSFX version. By the way, on the video on the link you can see how the guy bravely fights with the plugin, trying to compensate the output level.

So if I understood correctly just install Reaplugs with ReaJS

    EDIT

Then use the txt file provided with this application in any DAW?

When I download the zip files it is a file without a file extension.

so 10 minutes later I understood that I simply had to place the files in a specific location linked to the ReaJS path yes logical... (VST\ReaPlugs\JS\Effects)

Hi, I'm noob on this can you explain in more details how can I use this file to recreate phoenix and use with any DAW? Do I need to download Reaper first? Will it be possible to use in Logic Pro afterwards?

    Thanks in advance

For windows user that want to try it, the folder location is : C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\REAPER\Effects

    From Crane Song manuals :

    GOLD - Flat Frequency Response
    SAPPHIRE - Brighter
    OPAL - Warmer

input trim determines “how hard you hit the tape".

No, the vst version of Reaplugs is Windows only. On macOS it can only be used in Reaper itself.

Download and install Reaper. There are all kinds of scripts like this one, which can easily be added to Reaper.

Could they not make a generic host plugin for reaper scripts, in other DAWs? Like Blue Cats Patchwork could even do. The scripts themselves are so lightweight.

Currently I am a big noob too and after some research I found the suite of original reaper plugin installable for any DAW it is the ReaPlugs suite which is free and or included during the installation of Reaper, I personally do not use Reaper on my composition computer, rather Ableton so I installed the "Reaplugs" suite

    https://www.reaper.fm/reaplugs/

In these vsts there is a script utility called ReaJS in which to place the files "Phoenix_Tape'' in the following defaut path I personally created a phoenix tape folder but I think you can simply place the script like this in the "effects" folder
    C:\Program Files\VSTplugins\ReaPlugs\JS\Effects\Phoenix Tape

Well if I think they did I discovered today ReaJS which allows you to use most of their scripts in any DAW

Thanks Myfanwy, I didn't know that. I think I will give up since I only use Logic and I'm on macOS, it would be useless for me.

    Thanks anyway:bow:

Even if they had to build it from scratch. If you look on the screenshot; the right side shows you can add multiple scripts to the same "plugin instance". With a checkbox to enable/disable each loaded script. Like an excel pivot table. Could there be automation to everything in it?

Thanks Clone, maybe I'll just install reaper to test this Phoenix script . It would be nice to test it in Logic, and yeah I agree with you that they(someone) should develop a wrapper for those Reaper scripts to allow people to use on other DAWs, something like BlueCats Patchwork as you mentioned. But the more I learn about Reaper, the more I ask myself: What Reaper CAN'T do:woot: (Amazing DAW, even tough I wish it could be easier to use, and more MIDI friendly like Logic).

    Thanks :wink::bow:
