Won't notice until it's too late and after the fact. Then they go to run their burned copy of Unreal Tournament and it crashes or all their pr0n JPGs are scrambled.

Well, I believe sometimes it's just a point of pride, and a little bit of "fuck you" is worth the few hundred extra lines of code. Isn't u-He known for doing similarly fiendish things like deleting other installs and attempting to crashing systems etc.?

But, yes, I see that from a purely practical perspective it can be seen as a waste of time and resources. Then again, watermarking is in the same territory. Most people aren't going to detect an audio watermark, nor is anyone likely to care nor profit except on those fringe cases of prosecution which either result in financial penalties or it (potentially) acting as a deterrent which preserves revenue.
