CPU Performance vs. Real-Time Performance in Digital Audio

    I bought a 1st gen Scarlett too, but never had any drivers problems. It sounded bad, though.

    Generic wrappers like ASIO4ALL, FlexASIO, Steinberg ASIO, ... have to go through one of the Windows audio APIs (WASAPI, AudioGraph, KDM, MME, DSound). They can't talk to the hardware directly. A "true" ASIO driver by the interface's manufacturer can potentially bypass that extra layer of software-indirection. Doesn't mean that the driver would automatically be better though. If your interface doesn't have a true ASIO driver, but your DAW has solid support for WASAPI, then using a generic-ASIO-driver-on-top-of-WASAPI instead of your DAW's WASAPI backend is a (small) waste of resources.

    "Generic" ASIO drivers are ONLY for audio interfaces/soundcards that does not have official ones from their manufacturers !

    ...if provided, of course.
