yea maybe the update will help ;) those old Acustica plugs are heavy hitters on the processor an buggy as hell too ... hope the update helps ! the way DAW's handle plugins by Dif developers is hit an miss too... what crashes one DAW may not another but so far Sonar does pretty good with Acustica but best DAW for Acustica is Reaper :)

Ok i installed Reaper alongside with Cubase 8.5 pro and made a very simple project with 4 tracks. Two instances of Diva, one Dune 2 and one Omnisphere 2. No FX. No busses.
Cubase Performance monitor being just a joke, i used CPU monitor , core by core, and run an analysis playing the tracks.

Result : CPU used by Cubase 8% average - CPU used by Reaper 4% average

    Thank you Steinberg...i mean Yamaha...

i will have to give this a try! i tried the last bundle that was across the street early this year and realy like the compressors... it was a surprise ;)

I'm not very familiar with latest Windows vs hardware developments but didn't MS announced that only windows 10 will support the latest Intel Gen? Worth a little research especially if someone is planning to buy a new Kaby Lake system.

Steinberg team is already hard at work reverse engineering Reaper. So far they have failed.

well everything doesnt matter, when the RAM and HDD suck, performance wise of course, but was excluded here.

cant think of something else being more important than this.

daw running on a hdd with 5400rpm or with 7200 rpm wont yield same results. a same processor running with a ram memory at 1300mhz and with a ram at 1600mhz wont yield same results. that same processor wont bring same results if its on fsb 200mhz or fsb 266mhz (just example). SO, fast processor is only fast if its running on big fsb with fast ram and fast hdd (ssd is ofcourse better). so, dont put the blame only on processors if things are slow ;)

Anyway i duplicated my tracks until i maxed out my audio interface, a steinberg ur22 mk2 who collapsed far before my CPU power ran out.
Time to change my interface as well...

McDSP have always been one of the better plugin makers, but originally they were only available on Pro Tools/Mac platforms.

My sneaky suspicion is that programmers knew how to program better/more efficient code at the time. Half-joking... but really not so far from the truth. These days the code they make from objects is just a bloated and inefficient lump of crap, but it certainly makes their job much easier.

Back in the day they used to code real-time systems in assembly language, and yeah the coders really were better back then, but on the positive side progress has given us better algorithms today.

Agreeing with the other posts about todays coding inefficiency. Fastest optimized code is pure assembly. Compiled assembly next, and c++ behind that. I think most audio plugin devs are using c++. By the time you compile it with all of the required libraries, it does get quite bloated compared to pure assembly.
