Any way to convert .exe files for use on a Mac . . . besides Wine or installing Windows?

I'm trying WinZip. Hope that works. Anyone have a better way?

 

You already know the best way. since its a Windows binary, there is no perfect way to mess with it in a UNIX environment. I'd say just install it in Parallels. takes 15 min tops

 

If the .exe is an archive, Unarchiver does open it

 

You downloaded Prosonic midi arpeggios didn't you?

You need an unarchiving program like Keka.

 

Either this or – if it's not an archive – Resource Hacker. Unfortunately for Windows only, but it can extract different resource files from Windows binaries.

 

I couldn't locate the C-drive after using Wine.
Keke came up with an error.

why not just go to a friend with a pc and install it there,take out the midi and uninstall?

 

You may be right . . . not sure I'll be able to find the files after extracting on a pc, but worth a try. Still, long-term it'd be great to be self-sufficient. ;-)

 

I just tried to log into audioz on my buddy's pc and malware alerts and sirens went off. My buddy freaked and I cancelled. Is this what you pc guys have to deal with?

 

After you logged in AZ you don't get anymore popups.
99% of the time, a pop-up wont automatically put malware on your computer until you click somewhere or open a malicious download. and you could've easily avoid this situation by installing adblock.

Next time, you can use this or this software to monitor a folder (like C:\Program Files) and find newly created files.
another solution is to use a very small portable software like Everything. on first open, it scans NTFS drives and builds a database then you can simply type C: and sort files by date and find anything youre looking for. plus it's a superfast program for finding samples and VST directories

 

Google for Resource Hacker(available for only windows).open the exe with it.u will find several files in the left tab.find your midi file and right click and save it as .mid

 

i use 7-Zip (win and linux only i think, sorry) i use it also to open iso files that some other conventional method cant deal with.

 

Surely Pacifist for Mac can extract the MIDi files?

Well yeah, that's why I said it! Anything I can't open, I extract stuff with Pacifist.
Although I have Parallels Desktop with W7 for keygens and whatnot.
The trail version of Pacifist just has a waiting startup if you don't pay for it. Only 20 secs or so.

Only you can confirm this, as I don't have what ever it is you are trying to extract the MIDI files from!

 

So, hang on. Your title says "converting .exe files". No, Pacifist will not.
But if there are MIDI files in the file, "MIDI files for use on a MAC", which is what I focused on (sorry!), then all should be good.

If this was on a MAC, then right click on the Keka app in Applications, see contents, the folder will be in there somewhere.

 

I'll have to try Keka again. It didn't work when I initially tried. Maybe right-clicking will make a diff. thanks.
