Controlled vs Free Compositions

    I suppose, what I'm trying to say, is that when you're on stage and having to improvise off of a chart, that's hard and where your skills need be thrown. If you're a producer, you should encourage extreme experimentation (if time permits it.) Another example of where I see theory, composition and free form happen is this video.

    And then, you apply the improvising factor to a band, it's hard as just a producer. That's why pop music is miles away from what bands actually play. Then in actual recording sessions, the producers role is threatened, cause they make the music. However, in a modern context, producers are actually musicians in their own right. Think Giorgio Moroder. He started it, along with Quincy Jones.
