I want to know your opinion on how I would go about connecting these two interfaces, Babyface as the main ASIO and output device to speakers and the 0404 as a DSP FX processor. Has any of you ever attempted this with these interfaces or others and how did it go?

If I'm not completely wrong the Emu doesn't have any built-in fx and the fx in your DAW are processed by the CPU, not the soundcard...

    IOW, this doesn't work.

The E-Mu 0404 PCIe has 22 different DSP powered effects accessible through it's PatchMix app or PowerFX for DAWs.

The original one did. The OP needs to specify which one he or she is using.

Edit: I guess he or she did that at same time i ask the question.

Why would anyone do that anyways? Babyface Pro is so much better and more powerful in many ways.

I suppose he likes some of the EMU fx and want to use them.

https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/0404PCIe--e-mu-0404-pcie <-- this is the unit, it is my old interface which up and croaked about 2 years ago, mysteriously as I was trying out my old stored devices this one was completely okay, works well in FL studio and has audio playback on everything I throw at it with effects working too. And yes I want to use route separate signals to patchmix, apply fx and route back.

The only DSP effects are a reverb and delay which are honestly garbage, the 0404 has 22 and most of them are quite good.

I find it sad that such mediocrity has wormed it's way in to this forum. Isn't it the entire point of this forum to share curiosity and the result of that curiosity with all the experimentation that goes with it? If you have nothing of substance to add you are welcome to add it somewhere else okay? :D

I don't see a reason why it shouldn't work. You can either use PatchMix DSP on the outputs or PowerFX via VST.

I never understood you "dont post off topic"/"this is my thread" type people. it's not your forum to tell people they cant crack jokes.

Really confuses me when people act like a shitpost or tangential conversation is costing them something

It's not at all clear to me how you could route more than the 4 channels with the babyface. And those would have to be hardware inputs. When you use the EMU card as the main 'ASIO driver' you get 32 'virtual' input ASIO channels in the mixer, but it's not going to work with the babyface.

I say it's probably not worth it.

Ah, I figured. I remember that one from back in the days. I also remember the effects were pretty "meh", hence my question (as I also own the Babyface Pro). But each to their own. I like retro.

I hope you find a way to make it work, by patching out to with a separate PC and recording the processing (with whatever latency it might bring). Edit: with Toslink ofc.

You can wire it for example by the optical in/out used as S/PDIF, this can be done on the same computer, i have done a test with a 0404 PCI and it works it should be the same with the pci-e version, be sure to set one audio card as master clock source and the other one as slave. Latency on E-MU dsp is near to real time, because no ASIO is involved in this scenario. Of course you can also wire it by the analog in/out, in this case you don't need to worry about master/slave clock.

You confuse mediocrity with my sorry attempt at humor. My praise of the Babyface is well documented and will further the cause with the following...

I myself have used a nice silver Babyface in my home studio and applaud it's incredibly written and high performance driver going on now for the past six or so years. The Babyface preamp is my go to when I am using certain dynamic microphones before my outboard press, and in particular when recording vocals when chossing an ElectoVoice RE-20 for what it brings to the table for certain songs. For latency free effects when tracking I will use the included reverb and delay, and although neither would be my 1st choice to mix with are adequate for the task. I had bought this unit used and it was manufactured back in 2012 and has always worked perfectly and without any down time, all led lights still fire, the large control knob and buttons all function to spec and every input is as tight as the day that I first used them all. On the rare occasions that I have needed to employ more than two inputs to track, I had no problem hooking up abd syncing the oldie but still great sounding Presonus Digimax LT. All in all the RME Babyface is a great small interface which to the highest of quality, sounds and functions magnificently and find no reason to think about replacing it. The only thing that I have found as a weak spot, which has since been improved upon in the newest Babyface Pro model, is the breakout cable which can look a bit sloppy in my opinion, but which has never failed even though has been yanked on a few times over the years.

Thanks a lot! Was looking for something like this, I did not know that you have to pick a master clock which is probably the reason why there was a lot of wonky stuff going on with the audio before. :D Also I'm routing analog outs from the babyface to analog ins on the emu and optical out from the emu to optical in on the babyface because I have two sets of speakers using optical through a toslink splitter via babyface optical out.
