I have been looking into connecting my keyboard to my SSL2+ interface to record some retro sounds and drums or also record me playing something there, since im really used to it - also nostalgia reason of course.

SSL2+ has XLR/6,3 Jack as inputs, but i just cant find out if the XLR/JACK inputs are stereo or not? The manual gives zero clues about that.

    Any ideas?

On the keyboard end, i plan to use a 2x male split JACK to stereo female JACK and then stereo JACK cable into the SSL2+.

I previously considered a more complicated solution: from SSL2+ to the keyboard: female XLR to male JACK cable, then add splitter and connect via JACK to the keyboard. (right now i have something like this, but with with mono.)
I was not even sure if XLR can handle stereo, i didnt find anything about that.

    Thanks for your help.

The cable doesn't care what kind of currents flow through it, but the STANDARDIZATION of a (microphone) XLR cable does not provide for stereo signals (ground, signal, + 48V phantom power).

Of course you can use an XLR cable for unbalanced transmission of 2 independent signals ([or] e.g. a stereo signal).

    Keyboard ?!
EDIT: Fuck the Translator: I mean I wanted to know what he wants to connect.

    Why so complicated:
1 normal jack cable 6.3 L on the left and a normal jack cable 6.3 R on the right = stereo comes out!

In theory it is possible, in practise it depends on whether the two signals are put out as left and right and chances are, they're not. That's the difference between symmetrical and stereo I/O.
In case you have a two mono (male or female) to one stereo male adapter you can check this easily.

it's a 2 input device. XLR mono Left and Right is Balanced Input. Line inputs are also Mono.

They love to call something a 4 if they can.

Hmm but in order to let stereo information let flow through you need to have two "veins" otherwise its just mono? Or i am assume that wrong?
Not sure how XLR handles this?

So i guess the inputs are stereo for XLR and 6,3 JACK?

Hmm good to know. I am confused more than ever now :D

But otherwise they might had written that the inputs are stereo?

XLR outputs are mono, so one pair. So would make sense that its the same for the inputs.

It depends on the device, most synthesizers have mono left and mono right, but this is stereo in the DAW. Unfortunately you can NOT tell me what you want to connect. XLR / jack is a combination connection, i.e. guitar as jack or vocal microphone as XLR. XLR is the professional connection with less noise.

    L & R = Stereo

I want to connect my KN1500 SX, which has Right output, and some Left channel (Right/L+R). Both are 6,3 JACKs ofc.

neat. this is the manual for 2600 https://medias.audiofanzine.com/files/manual-technics-kn2600-479670.pdf

never seen one of these before.

    TERMINALS

PHONES, FOOT SW, EXP PEDAL, LINE OUT (R/MONO, L), MIDI (IN, OUT), USB, MIC

if these are going to be just short cables from synth to i/o, I think regular 1/4 TRS would be fine without the XLR connectors. Unless you already have a pair already. Are you going to connect a console mixer to it?

Thank you. 2 jack cables 6.3 L & R in the SSl2 + L input & right input. Look that you plug the left cable into the left input. Then create a new stereo track in the DAW. Have fun!

every xlr is mono. for stereo synth sound you will need two xlr cables going into input 1&2 or 3&4. why don't you try it ?

Many funny internet videos begin exactly this way. Often involving electricity, something else, and fire.

it is r (mono) + left normal. since it is not a monosynth, it will probably work best with 1/4 TRS not TS (instrument cable) connection, even if you just use the right mono output only.

I don't think I have ever seen anything like this in a manual. phenomenon wtf? :

I am clever, I just realized that my Studio monitors have XLR male to JACK and i have two of them.
I just saved 30€ for the cables. Thanks!

Just need buy now the MIDI Cable.

XLR connections are mono, as it has always 3 pins (signal, signal out of phase, and ground).

Now it sounds you need a TRS stereo jack to 2 XLR connections really.

*edit:* Ah, you figured this out already.
