Hi all! In vsti like the XLN Addictive Keys, different sample layers ('expression') are triggered by different velocity ranges. A special option is to have this system have no effect at all over dynamics i.e. velocity will still trigger different sample layers, but all layers will have the same amplitude from the get-go. Do you think toggling this option on makes for a less natural sound, considering that in the real world 'expression' ('sample layers') is directly proportional to variance in amplitude, in which case it would be dealt with by gain/volume automation and compression — or is the whole dynamics taming dispensable considering this 'new' type of technology? Just wanted to hear experienced mixers' opinions. Thanks!
