Companies and musicans that wrote and write music history.

Which companies and musicians were important - which ones we forgot - which ones should be appreciated?

Peefeeyatko (Give me more apples) - Zappa and the Synclavier

Technology has come So Far it's kind of ridiculous now,
why would a great like Zappa spend so much effort in that crappy proto-MIDI stuff?

But yeah that was the Cutting Edge back then, just like Kraftwek or the Popcorn song were before..

I remember seeing another documentary where Zappa talked about the best Speakers to have in his view, and the Lexicon reverb.. but I can't find it atm..

Because the Synclavier could play stuff that he wrote that musicians couldn't.

Ofc ofc, try to play the Black Page and see where your rhythmic skills take you.. lol

And actually the Synclavier was a Monster for its time, upgraded to 16bit 50KHZ sampling at 1982,
the only competition they had was the Fairlight CME, and later the E-MU stuff which took a good piece of the cake..

But yeah, even tho the instruments are Sampled, listening to it 40 years later is kind of jarring, (at least to me)
as is most of the music Zappa did with it, like.. Jazz From Hell is well, clearly from Hell lol

In essence tho, he's doing what we're all doing 40 years later,
program a computer with MIDI to trigger sounds/samples.. it's just his computers were like micro-snails in comparison.

But we're all on the same boat, from Hans Zimmer to your little DJ wannabe neighbor :)

    This is a fine topic.
However, the potential for what would be an anthology/florilegium is enormous to adequately fulfil the title.

If you take history books/references/encyclopaedias as the point where any form of accuracy is gleaned, then advancements, radical changes in direction, style, approach, skills, composition, arranging, technology, methodology, ideology and even anthropology due to sociological changes (dressing for the times and adapting music accordingly or the reverse)... and way too much to list all have to be included.

The short answer for something so massive being that the which/who - is/was/were important equals every contributor in every way and source to the development of music in each style/genre.

P.S - How long is a piece of string? As long as you want to make it...

Steinberg. Because of VST standard that is now everywhere.

Lippold Haken and his Continuum Fingerboard. Pre-MPE, you know it.

All the people behind the analog audio and then the digital audio as they changed the forms of music existence dramatically. I cannot tell the names because there are many of them. And I'd add here all the people behind the computer technologies. Sorry. it's vague, I understand.

Artist: Stockhausen - his influence still sounds fresh today.

    Gear Manufacturer: Linn Designs

But they all pale (pun intended) in comparison to the greatest artist of our time: Kevin from Louisville
