all depends on the context.. which is why I find decisive pronouncements about music to be about as useless,
and baseless as identity politics... and I only feel derision for both

 

Jazz musicians always turned popular songs into Jazz with improvisation, with reharmonization too. Miles did it, Herbie did it with his album "New Standards" and many other musicians did it like Jaco playing "Blackbird"... You have a great musical culture so you know better than me about it

Presumably so it doesn't randomly disappear / w/e? It was just used as an example, I guess. I mean, I don't think anyone (well I didn't =) think it sounded like foster's (unique) style, did they?

Not everyone knows the "Foster style" and could well believe it was his.
He never explained it either, even on request.

Of course he was feeling anxious it would randomly disappear. So he recorded it from youtube and uploaded it to a safer place (clyp.it) and linked the sound from there instead of the video from youtube. So that this important thread would be preserved intact for the future in case the owners decided to take their clip off of youtube after 7 years. And after all that work he forgot to tell us who actually made the song he liked so much and wanted us to know about.

You might be right. However, this is not the first time he does this kind of thing. In this case he might not have had time to read the praise yet, but he has taken credit for others work before, not revealing the author while gladly being honoured here in the forums.

Why?

At least I found out that listening to Jazz is different than other kinds of listening. In Jazz, you should free your mind to sort of float in the air than reaching somewhere. I was always thinking about an starting point, specific path and destination by the composer. Jazz's ideology is a bit different.
