I have no idea what this thread is about, but I recoil internally whenever I have to use someone else's computer mouse and there's no place where I can wash my hands afterwards.

I can almost guarantee you the chiefs hands without gloves are cleaner than those of kitchen workers who use gloves - - no gloves, you're washing all the time. Gloves? Not so much. Bacteria is bacteria. In a kitchen, surface of gloves is as fine a place as any to set up shop.

I'm old school. Immune system like a tank. If chef washes his hands when working with food, I'm good with that. If he didn't, well, then at least I don't want to know that fact. I ate dirt and bugs as a baby while my mom was busy in the garden. My system can take a lot. Three people who tested positive for covid coughed directly in my face. Didn't even get a runny nose. When I do get the flu, it lasts about a day then my body disposes of it.

I cook but never with gloves and I don't think that I could to be honest. Prep would be very hard, as I for one depend on feel to slice thinly and with precision. I'm always cognizant about bacteria being introduced to places and things that should not be and wash both my knives and hands after cutting meat and then moving onto uncooked dishes with raw vegetables. I also separate cutting boards...meat and raw. I've never made anyone sick, at least that I know of and that is both in commercial kitchens as well as at home.

Wash your hands as often as possible. Cook at home and please heat skewers thoroughly. Be careful with poultry; rinse everything thoroughly and let it dry. Avoid touching your face with your hands/fingers, and when you get home after shopping or exchanging money, wash your hands thoroughly. Use disinfectant wipes for doorbells and doorknobs, and disinfect the surface of your cell phone more often.

Money and cell phones are breeders of disgusting, evil creatures. That's where the fevers grow, as well as that tight python boot that you couldn't take off for months.

no chef wears gloves. people who wear gloves are doing food preparation, and not cooking the food.
chefs use extremely sharp knives and chop very quickly. gloves would cause them to cut their hands.

also, they almost never touch the food after it is done cooking.

I always take a pair of boxing gloves with me to restaurants and insist the chef wears them. When he puts them on I wish he hadn't.

Unwashed hands can contaminate gloves whilst putting them on, so this concern might be better focused on the hygiene rating of the place to ensure the general culture of food safety is high in all areas.

Skip the handshakes and the kisses when hugging. Besides, the virus doesn't care what your name is or what you do for a living.

I worked in a restaurant kitchen a few years ago. And you don't really want to know what happens after the bar. Since then I don't really want to eat in restaurants anymore.

I used to be a caretaker to support my music habit and sometimes I had to clean food preparation and cooking areas.
Nobody ever swept under the stoves.
I pushed my broom underneath and ancient hot dogs rolled out.
    Haven't eaten a hot dog since:rofl:

yes, and for the same reason places that only do takeout and delivery are usually lacking in the cleaning department. Comparatively.

If it wasn't for the coronavirus pandemic, I would probably have given up on mixing for a living and I would be in a professional kitchen right now. I just randomly found out one day I was really fucking good at it and went pro in about two years. It's not that much of a big deal to touch the food, if the kitchen has good staff to keep it running in great condition, the sous chef (and some others that might touch the food), usually have very clean hands. A decent restaurant will follow a bunch of protocols to avoid contamination.
