A Russian friend tells me that the Western media has left out one crucial point in reporting this, which is that it refers to national / public theatre, music and dance performances. I would also add that American culture is indeed a bit of a scourge. More power to cultures who look elsewhere or look into themselves (even if it is state enforced). Although I think banning such things outright is always the wrong approach; subtly is always a better peace of mind, such as simply not providing grants or access to facilitate certain works, etc. Otherwise it becomes this horrible & paranoid Stasi like environment. The harder the NO, the fiercer the opposition...
