look at it this way: over the years, people have recorded and mixed gold and platinum records on equipment that many audio snobs would consider garbage. many were actually recorded and mixed in headphones. what matters most is the song itself, and secondly what the recording sounds like on the average listener's equipment.

Well, yes I completely agree, but this is a totally different topic: you are talking about products with a strong artistic content. If only that kind of music were released on the market, we would have an album every 10 years, but that's not how showbiz works

Aforementioned Yamaha HS-series and JBL LSR305 will give you great quality at a low price. The JBLs has a very flat curve. When you "outgrow" these you can move onto a higher price range. Bluetooth audio should not be considered. 3,5" size is also too small. Read up on the recommendations. Good luck with the music production.

i guess we will just have to agree to disagree. i can't think of any logical reason why using less expensive speakers would increase the amount of time spent on a project by a decade.

You cant make music unless you have $3500 monitors dont you know? All those hit grammy winning records you've heard over the years that were mixed on shitty Yamaha NS-10s are totally worthless. You cant make music unless you have $3500 monitors, thats how its done, those are the rules, listen to the kids who dont do this for a living and steal their software from a pirate website. They know everything best cause Im sure they're doing this professionally, and aren't just spouting shit they've read on the internet.

yeah if you can get 2nd hand M1 Mk2 they are serious studio monitors, harder to find now. New you are looking at JBLs $300 range.

I probably didn't explain myself properly. when you say that:
You are obviously focusing on those albums full of artistic vibe: when there is a strong concept, the aesthetic side of the sound can also be overshadowed. An example: First De la Soul Album:
really interesting albums like this come out one every ten years.
There is much discussion among artists about the relationship between content and aesthetics, but this is off topic here: in this thread we are talking about sound aesthetics, studio monitors and which ones work well to get the job done

If you going to produce hip-hop/trap music I suggest you to buy your own sound system with a receiver from philco or anything like that, I have my own setup and spent only 200U$D

no offense but thats not the way to go...mixes will sound waayyyyy off. you need studio monitors for studio work. a receiver + regular speakers is just wrong. those are meant to amp up certain sounds to sound 'good' . you need the flattest/truest sound possible to mix accurately . same goes for headphones.i remember when people jumped on the bandwagon for Beats by Dre ....horrible sounding headphones.

if building a sound system with a receiver/amp is your choice then thats fine , but you might as well just get some decent headphones instead. some sennheisser's (ie: hd25, hd 30 pro)...

Both comments have Merritt in different circumstances and will eventually upgrade but for now I have to make due with what my budget allows.

A pair of Presonus Iris E5 second hand mint condition - easy to find on the net - is imo a good choice.

I have them myself as my second (for comparison) monitors with my Adam A7X and they are really good.

Thats like saying you wont find a reliable car unless its a Rolls Royce

Some of the best artists in the world have been creating and publishing quality music with monitors that cost less than a few hundred bucks, sometimes less than that. Let that speak for itself.

You don't need to be able to afford expensive monitors to help you mix. In fact, what you're paying for with most high end monitors is brand recognition and an inflated sense of exclusivity. A decent pair of cheap monitors and a well set up and acoustically treated room will do the job just fine.
