It was a fun time, compared to 2021. No i lied. It was freaking crazy fun, the late 90s that is!
Great bands, music, movies, no social media, smart phones, great times. :phunk:

I just dont think including the politics of 2020/21 into this documentary makes it a hard core objective documentary, should have been left out imo.

Didn't knew shit got so wild..

But yeah the woke moral correctness commentaries are completely out of place,
it's just crazy 90's ppl in their natural state, no sociopolitical moral filters/bias, what do you want..

Lots of cheap beer/adulterated drugs, and the 90's spirit of doing things bigger each time

Surprised that Marilyn Manson didn't act, he was big back then,
but I guess his highest point was a couple/four years later..

Still, I've got no idea ofc..
But I wouldn't completely blame the ppl/audience for the seemingly catastrophic end of the festival..

The catastrophe began when the Organizers did a bad or even negligent job at organizing the whole thing.

If the most basic things like access to Water/Food proper Camp areas and Toilets were granted and made in good/rational terms..
Maybe ppl wouldn't have been so frustrated/mad as to blow the whole thing up.

Ofc festivals are a Business, and they want to make Profit..

But the moment you're dealing with half a million ppl in the middle of nowhere,
you need to plan/do things very well and responsibly.. not only for profit.

Humans are not cattle that you can milk for profit, (or at least not so blatantly..)
and in fact the morality of the whole macro festival/event business model is quite dubious in itself..

And also I guess it's part of the destructive mentality of Rock-Pop based music,
and the fact it was a topping point on the naturally overblown and even aggressive culture of the 90's..

But in a way it was bound to happen, that's the kind of stuff we learn from,
because humans learn the hard way most of the time..

I bet shit wouldn't have gotten so Wild in a Bluegrass or Jazz festival.. lol

    (Yet who knows right..
Country rednecks could be more prone to carry/use guns,
and many Jazzists wouldn't mind starting a Nuclear War over the usual ii-V-I argument.. lol)

My 16-year-old son keeps freaking out and even gets violent!

They describe behavior of young people, which is not so rare today, who are lovingly cared for by their parents and provided with all material goods in the best possible way, who neither appreciate this, nor adhere to rules and often exceed serious limits.

While in earlier times children and adolescents were often brought up much too strictly and thus grew up intimidated, fearful and unhappy, today the pendulum has swung far too far in the other direction, so that there is often talk of neglect of prosperity.

Many parents who meant it really well with their children and wanted them to grow up free, happy and carefree, have to recognize today, to their great disappointment, that a lack of boundaries and insufficient demands on motivation, discipline, behavior and adaptive behavior affect the children in the long run do not make you happy, but rather make the children dissatisfied, listless and unhappy with themselves and the world!

In addition, there is often hardly any limited consumption of television, video and PC games. The majority of children and adolescents today have their own television and PC in the children's room and not infrequently use them to consume images of violence and sex, and even hard pornography, which are extremely harmful to the youthful soul.

In addition, there are more and more only children who grow up as little princes or princesses and have far too little opportunity to come to terms with other children in everyday life, to adapt and sometimes to subordinate themselves.

The need is frightening when, as adolescents, children who have grown up are mentally numbed, joyless and disoriented, only living their fun and pleasure and the girls are sometimes prescribed the pill at the age of 12 or 13, so that they are carefree Trying out what they have seen in the media for a long time, but not properly classified.

Dear Paula, I do not want to imply that all of the Zeitgeist scenario I have outlined here applies 1: 1 to your situation, but against this background I want to show that the prevailing Zeitgeist conducts such hostile behavior - as you do described us here in a terrifying way - provoked and encouraged by all means.

If the child then falls into the well, the need is great and good advice is expensive, especially when you are dealing with a young man who is prepared to use violence and who does not shy away from violence.

Here it is necessary to demonstrate moral courage and civic courage and to make clear and demand long-neglected limits. Your son will certainly still live at your own expense - so you have an important say when it comes to pocket money, cell phone contracts and TV and Internet usage. This is where you could use the lever to clearly show the young man his limits and the consequences of his wrongdoing.
A further influence would be given via the school, the school psychologist or, depending on the training course, also via the apprenticeship, the vocational school, etc. Of course, it requires a sincere admission of your plight and the courage to stand by it very openly and honestly and to ask for help. In addition, there is also the option of family therapy or advice and psychological help from the youth welfare office.
If all else fails, then there would also be child and adolescent psychiatry up to and including admission to a therapeutic youth facility. Because your job as parents is ultimately also to protect yourself and to delimit yourself clearly when you notice that you can no longer influence your son and that you feel fearful and helpless towards him!

Dear Paula, I can of course only make assumptions and give rough guidelines based on your few lines. That is why I asked you to seek advice on a long-term and regular basis from an educational counseling center of the free welfare associations (e.g. Catholic youth welfare organizations) or state agencies (youth welfare office) in order to prevent worse things and perhaps - what I wish you from the bottom of my heart - everything to be good again to be able to steer.

I hope that with my words I have been able to give you some courage and point you in a new direction! Above all, however, I wish you and your husband a lot of strength and confidence in the restructuring of your family situation, which is now so necessary, so that your life compass soon points again in the direction of genuine, carefree joie de vivre! If you wish, I will continue to be at your side with help and advice.

It all comes down to providing basic needs and security. I have been in large concerts where it went from normal to chaotic in a few minutes.
Crowd goes wild and starts pushing, if you are a small skinny dude or a girl, good luck because you can get easily pushed, stepped on or whatever.
This is a force that one has to experience to understand.

I know that, it used to be in football stadiums, where people died. Then they changed that. "Greed eats the brain" is what they say here. In order to have a good security concept, there is usually a lack of specialists because they cost a lot of money. Whenever people die, it gets better afterwards. Here, over 25 bicycle riders had to die before they invented and installed a "right-turn assistant". The people who drive to work in the morning have great confidence in the infrastructure that they come back from time to time. In the meantime, trust has declined sharply, banking crisis, IC accident, rail accidents - 2 passenger trains on one lane have collapsed head-on. Then finally money is taken into hand and it is done differently and better.

Roger Waters was born on September 6, 1943 and is now 78 years old. For his age he can be forgiven for the playback, be nice too - I'm curious if you have to use playback at the age of 77! They did a tour from 2017 to 2018 around 200 live concerts.

" Oh we'll find a bug - oh oh but he didn't always sing live. "
    So what ...!

" Well, that's not possible - we want a perfect world."

Well, it wasn't any better in '94, either. Here's Nine Inch Nails performing live at Woodstock '94. Great performance, but they're not covered in mud on purpose. It happened because the backstage and the way to the stage was quite muddy, and at some point they had a mud wrestling competition before the concert.

I remember watching this festival live on MTV, and I remember quite well how people started trashing the fencing of the tower/toilets during Limp Bizkit's Break Stuff. I was an avid festival goer myself at the time (those nineties!) and things always got a bit out of hand, which was cool because it gave you this feeling of being in a world separate from the outside world. But it was always still... controlled... civil. But when I saw the events on Woodstock develop I quickly realized this was not going to end well.

Trashing the place is one thing, but the rape of women in the crowd during sets (such as Limp Bizkit) was just awful. That's what separated Woodstock '99 from being a festival that got a bit out of hand to a plain hostile environment. When you have a crowd that big you'll always have some incidents with idiots, but women being raped during a gig is just WAY out there (I've been to a lot of festivals and I've never heard about that happening).

Obviously bands such as Limp Bizkit were not to blame, they just came to do there what they were supposed to do. It's the organization and how they set up the stage.

The lineup wás very impressive however. Most of the biggest nineties rock bands were there and I've very much enjoyed seeing them all live on tv. At the time I wished I could have been there. In hindsight I am happy I wasn't :)

A few years later people died during a Pearl Jam concert in Denmark (Roskilde). From that point on festivals got a lot more strict (at least in Europe) and it was the end of the almost anarchist freedom that festivals were known for: no more bonfires, no more stage diving / crowd surfing, drug checks at the entrance, extra fences in front of the stage to limit the crowd's pressure, no more caravans/PA sets on the camping sites, etc... On the one hand a necessary evolution, on the other hand the end of the nineties freedom festival era.

" There is class war, right, but it is my class, the class of the rich, that makes war and we win ” ―Warren Buffett

The violence less leads to the total surveillance state, more cameras, more police, more security services, higher insurance premiums, more expensive tickets and fewer freedoms for the individual. Concerts are big business and those who run this business will demand more security from the state and the legislature will issue new regulations and give the police more powers.

Take a look at the safety precautions in soccer, for example, video cameras looking for hoologans that are listed as huge in the computer file. In addition, hundreds of police that the respective state has to pay from taxpayers' money.

A good example for a well organized and pretty peaceful Metal festival with round about 75.000 visitors (English subs are provided)
