CCleaner has been bloated/untrustworthy for over 10 years. Compromised the moment they started doing more than system cleaning. Delete now.

    A. The current Way is BleachBit System Cleaner (Linux/Windows/Mac).

Read some reviews, then try BleachBit (Free/Open Source/Github). You will never use another system/junk cleaner. BleachBit is now what CCleaner used to be...an unapologetic, deep-digging system cleaning beast only.

*BleachBit is not a malware scanner. It contains No Tracking/No Ads/No Upgrade Nagging.

In 2025, CCleaner is literally irrelevant to a sec/privacy-oriented power user. The 'Safe' versions are out-of-date. That is not a 'Plus'.

    Good Luck!

P.S. Cats are still getting PUP's? Wow.

Well everytime you uninstall a Program more so with Windows built in Uninstaller it can leave behind entries in the Registry... RevoUninstaller is better at removing these I believe during the uninstallation process.
I also use O&O ShutUp10++ with nearly all entries ticked to remove all the built in Windows 11 Pro telemetry crap and never had any issues.

I downloaded BleachBit and will give it a test. Thanks for all the tips everyone!!!

Now my only issue is these f&^$%$#@ browser popup windows, does anyone have any ideas what is causing it and how to stop? I think it is Opera latest update because I never saw it before and it just started happening. :dunno:

Yes. Troubleshoot it and figure out what is going on. Also, you should be using Ublock Origin extension in Opera, if you aren't already. You don't want some third party application being able to edit your hosts file. What you really want is a correctly configured firewall, and look into finding a blocklist subscription. Or you could setup a dns sinkhole.

click and read spoiler this time
    How to troubleshoot
    Have them try in order:
    1. Disable Opera extensions
      • Go to: opera://extensions

      • Toggle all off temporarily.

      • Reload a page and click in a text box again.

      • If it’s gone, re-enable one by one.
    2. Check Windows Text Suggestions
      • Open Settings → Time & Language → Typing

      • Turn off:
        • “Show text suggestions when typing on the physical keyboard”

        • “Multilingual text suggestions”
    3. Check for IME or language bar
      • On the taskbar, click the language indicator (like ENG, CH, JP, etc.)

      • If another input method is active, switch to ENG US.

      • You can also remove extra input methods in Settings → Time & Language → Language & region.
    4. Check background apps
      • Right-click Taskbar → Task Manager → Startup tab.

      • Disable any keyboard assistant, translation tool, or “productivity helper” app.
    5. Try in another browser
      • If it only happens in Opera, it’s an extension or Opera AI prompt feature.

      • If it happens system-wide, it’s a Windows or IME feature.

Opera Ad Blocker is the only extension installed and enabled and turning off doesnt stop this popup window. I check startup in task manager and everything but RtkAudUService64 is disabled (Realtek High Definition Audio Driver, a software component that enables high-quality audio playback on Windows operating systems.) but spybot had something enabled so I disabled that too. Language is set, all typing and text are turned off. I just tried Firefox and it does not do this window popup so it is definitely Opera..

Opera did an update this week so it must be something with that but I cant find or dont know how to turn it off :snuffy:

That's awesome. I'm not that savvy with "patching" stuff so it comes down to FW and NetLimiter blocking it dead. No net access means no targeting it for anything - it just does it's job like any other automated tool.

The "reg cleaner" is OFF, No "drive wiper", no "dupe finder", no "system restore", No "loading/running at startup", no "scheduling", no "smart cleaning", no "data sharing", and no updating... I have a bunch of "includes" for getting rid of junk that apps leave on the system, and I do use the start up editor tool (handy), and the cookie clean tool. It works without incident on or off the inet. Used it that way in win7 for years. No issues.

Windows is a notorious data hoarder. When you want to free up space, sometimes it takes up to several gigabytes!

i thought windows10's own uninstaller is doing a clean job. i haven't uninstalled much, will take a look next time i uninstall something.
on win7 i was using "total uninstall". it was really good. revo uninstaller is as good i think. but back then total uninstall was the bomb.

will check out o&o's shutup tool. they do have good apps.

there's this one utility i've found some weeks back.

but as always with tools allowing you to alter your os system, use with caution!!

What kind of pop-up window is it? Do you have a screenshot?

    A few things about SB S&D;
With Spybot you can turn off the updater and the "internet protection". Never used it because it's irrelevant. Spybot will want to load at startup - turn that off too. Also you don't need the updater service and/or scanner service running all the time. Just set those to manual in SVC's panel. There's nothing wrong with updating the hosts with new found garbage sites - SB will make a backup for you and set the hosts file to Read Only which it should be set to anyway. Been running this for years and it works fine.

No idea about opera. Never used it. But if its giving issues I would just get rid of it. But before tossing opera out the door you might first make a note of what opera version you had running properly. Download that version of the OFFLINE INSTALLER. Do not use the installer stubs that require internet connection to complete. If you have passwords or links to save, save them off first. Completely uninstall opera with REVO (searching all accounts), afterward police up the remaining junk and reboot. Reinstall the correct opera version with internet turned OFF and turn off all opera updating.

FF and chrome are the easiest to mold to ones expectations. Been using those for years as well and keep the updaters TURNED OFF as well as updates for extensions. Ublock Origin should be the only ad block you need. For chrome & UB origin you'll want to run a older version of chrome browser and turn off the updates because the newer versions of chrome have effectively gutted ublock's effectiveness.
