How long does it take for you to remember the notes sounds or chords sounds?
How do I manage to remember the chord sounds in different Keys?? There are 7 chords in each key. isn't it hard?
I can't remember the notes sounds! How can I remember them? anytime I press a key on my midi with my eyes closed I still can't !

Please help me on how can I practice and make this work, I have music in my head and after I can't put it on my ableton I get mad and forget everything.

 

Just sing or hum it and record it, and then go from there. Personally I don't see why you need to memorize the sound of every note and chord. In my case I don't touch an instrument until I have the chord progression already worked out in my notebook, with additional information such as extended chords, inversions, and the notes in each chord. I use software for this purpose, so that I can easily and quickly skip through chord combinations. I can then compose and record a verse, prechorus and chorus idea in minutes and that includes the melody and the bassline. Obviously it's only a starting point, but 9 times out of 10 I have something very usable.

 

When you hear music in your head, hum it or sing it while you record your voice.

If you think you're hearing guitars and drums, say so as you record.
If you think you're hearing a synth or an orchestra, say so as you record.

Record the basic melody or 'beat' and work the chords out later.

Music is a language. You don't need 'to think words' before you 'speak words.' You simply speak.

Because you have a lot of practice at speaking, words come out of your mouth and tend to make sense.

The same is true with music. Musicians can 'speak music' in real time. Instead of hearing music
for the first time in their heads, they can hear music for the first time as they play it on an instrument.

Any song on Earth can be played (arranged) in an infinite number of ways.
It's not important to duplicate the music in your head. You can make it even better if you experiment.

The music in your head is a living creature, always evolving, ever changing, never repeating itself. Have some fun with it.

By the way: there are many, many more than 7 chords per key. (sorry)

Suggestion: Buy a cheap harmonica. You'll be able to speak music with it in a month or less, I bet.

Yeah, it's just a process of many different parts, with a million ways to get to the same end results ..

 

As the guys said hum it and try n find the correct pitches. Being able to write the melodies and chords you hear or that are in your head is an actual skill n it takes tons of practice(Specially Chords). N of course it varies with the complexity of what is actually inside ur head, could be simple melody im sure that you can find that in less than an hour. But if you truly wanna translate chords and and complex things like modulations et. you do require a higher level of expertise on musicianship that you can only acquire with alot (ALOT) of practice. I am currently studying music theory in collge and i can tell you that it is definitely wortth the work that you have to put in. For a Musician, having control of where you wanna take your music is an Invaluable skill.

 

I hum it.. record.. then convert to midi, then add an instrument.. Voila.. :dancing:

Armpit farting can also be converted to midi..

 

The best thing you could do, IMO of course, is start Ear Training. It'll help with many things musical. Composing, Playing, Transcribing, Arranging, etc. You really have to be serious about it. Take your time and PRACTICE! It takes time but it's really worth it. It's also important to sing and hum things aloud. For instance, if you're working with intervals and the software you use plays a Perfect 5th, hum it and then choose the answer you think it is. The voice is very important in music. Internalizing the intervals and stuff is important!

For ear training I recommend using EarMaster Pro.

 

Hum, sing, whistle, tap/drum, beatbox, dictate, whatever into a portable recorder/phone. Back in the days I even had a shitty hand-held cassette recorder. Some of the best songs "came to me" when I was in the shower. Some even when I was having a shit.

Having a guitar (or other instrument of choice) close at hand.
Pen and paper.
Improvise.

I think it's that "easy". At least it is for me now. But I've played music since I was a kid and have studied instruments, music theory and sound engineering for years.

 

What instrument do you play?
I play the piano and when I practice a new piece it's usually 40% photographic memory of the sheet music and 60% kinesthetic memory. Sometimes I only conciously know what one hand plays and the other hand follows unconciously.
What helps a lot is to learn the chords runs or melodies consist of.
Obviously, it differs greatly from individuum to individuum how a person learns.
I don't know how it is with different instruments but I guess that combination of memory types with a significant amount of kinestethic memory is key.

Of course, if you don't play an instrument... learning one would be a good point to start. You'd come across a huge variety of musical stuff to remember and lots of obstacles you'd have to tackle in different ways.

 

I'm not a musician but a producer, I can't remember the note sounds because I like to transpose my keys to use familiar fingerings so I need to 'find' it every time I start a new song.
I don't know if this is good or bad but it gives some sort of creative different start point if you understand what I mean

I had the same problem as you, so the perfect solution is to record your voice (idea)

Old school but works:

Choose a sound like flute or piano or simple synth wave and play a C scale starting from C2 and sing over it
you'll learn the tunes in days/weeks. Depends how much is good your instinctive musicality

When you'll be able to sing the C scale without the sound support, start to transpose it to other tunes (D,E,F….)
Then learn the same playing minor scales…

Next step will be learn tunes intervals ( C>E - C>F and so on)
