Can anyone suggest some good headphones for mixing?

You know this is quite true. Since 90% of the music today is listened to on iphones, etc. Maybe we should all mix with a $30 pair of earbuds!

You should use a dedicated headphone amplifier with DT770 headphones or any headphones ---

I used to use these cheap panasonic in ear bud type headphones - £5 a pair on Ebay - I actually have some music released that was mixed with those things - At the end of the day you just have to know what other released material sounds like on the headphones your using - Then make those adjustments - Some of the best ever DnB was created exclusively on headphones - Being fed directly from the output of a speaker amplifier !!!!

However I would choose the HD600 vs the HD650 due to the more natural frequency response curve and less hyped bass.

Mix? No, definitely not. Reference? Sure, at least verifies that your music sounds as good as it can on those things as well.

I picked up a pair of Sennheiser HD580's (same drivers as the HD600) used (but like new) for $120. I've been forced to spend a more time mixing with phones than I used to, and this is one of the best bang-for-your-buck purchases I've ever made. I've had a pair of ATH-M50's for years and will keep them for tracking, but the open-backed Sennies are a real step up for mixing - a much more open and natural sound-field.

    I certainly give mine a listen through cheap, common earbuds! . . . and the car stereo . . . and my sitting room surround system . . . and my buddy's studio . . . and my other buddy's nightclub . . . and my iPhone speakers . . .

Doesn't have to be, but you usually get what you pay for. Also remember to get good quality cables.

I use AKG K271mkII with a dedicated headphones amp, because I like how flat and uncolored they are. I've used AKG headphones for 13 years now. It's usually not what you use/have, but how well you know what you have/use. Sure, mixing on monitors (or even reference-mixing on a mono speaker) is the preferred reference to achieve a good mix, but there are artists who mainly use headphones.

Some mix on NS10s and swear by them (because they know them like the palm of their hand). I find them the shittiest sounding speakers and can't understand the ridiculous second-hand prices on them. :)

Cheap I do not agree with that, Reasonable yes. They are really good flat freq response headphones for the money. I got a pair off of Amazon on black Friday for $50. Best headphones I have ever owned and very comfortable.

I've tried a few... Go with the ATH-M50. Quality at a good price. You can thank me later.
