Is this just an employer's failed attempt at making an plausible excuse why (s)he excludes some DJs and hires others? Or just some EDM magnate trying to monopolize venues for his properties (his DJs?) Using the media propaganda as cover? I tend to go for the latter. Maybe the economy in the US is contracting so much now, ppl have to fight over what's left. They did allow reporting that the 1st quarter GDP of the US, 2016, was negative. So giving government fantasy statistics, it's prob way worse...
I'm pretty sure we can all appear to be doing whatever we want others to think we're doing, while doing what we need. I'm just curious, since its publicized, why is this publicized?

If his DJ's were "cheating" by plugging their laptops' audio out into the venue's PA system and running nothing but pre-compiled playlists, they could just as easily have done that with a smartphone.

Good question, and I'd be happy to answer, but it's Off-Topic, brah.

 

As a professional engineer and producer and someone who plays several instruments to a very high standard I absolutely refute that comment. I have also been a DJ and in fact I'm due to play my first DJ set for 16 years quite soon (original material). I don't think I shall forget how to play instruments in the process...

 

Those are not my questions but his (Mr. DJ's). He's got fired (not paying attention to the club's owner) and is searching for a new and more honorable job.

There's actually a phrase in propaganda called, "no news, news" as a way to keep the target audience in the dark about things. There was a cool one word in German for it, but I can't think right now, if anyone knows the German word, I'd appreciate it cause finding the German word for it meant, it was part of statecraft for a long enough time to have a freakin' word for it.

 

Im not a dj,im a musician,song writer,composer,producer,bla bla,you get the picture.
I think because of certain idiots that just put a usb stick into their laptop their whole craft has become a joke.
But some of the things many of the dj-s do certainly is not a joke.
I dont think its fair to put them all in the same category.
Its just like in any genre,lets take heavy metal for example,tons of shitty bands who have no idea how to write a song or even do cover songs,they suck,long hair and tattoos dont mean shit to me,its about substance...its the same in the electronic music,it takes a lot of knowledge to do what many of these guys are doing,even here on audiosex.
I appreciate and respect any man(or woman) that knows how to handle his stuff,doesnt matter which genre.

 

this man has a very valid point. did you make a difference in the clubs with techniques you invented? no then shut up and sit down, nobody is waiting for you to state what DJ's can and cant use in the booth to make people dance and have a good time (although, i think, all DJ's agree that using a prerecorded set or use a pre-compiled playlist on automix is just not done, but that is the same if they would have the set on CD)

Absolutely! Up until basically now we needed instruments to play the compositions of ours or others or simply to do some improvisations.
The interface between our creativity and the final output when and where others can hear our musical expressions is getting more and more direct. Very soon we will have cortical and/or symbiotic interfaces that can be connected to our brains! I mean this is probably the most flexible and also direct solution to many things including musical expression. I am saying this even though I play the guitar and keys very well.
This club owner is also a DJ and a very conservative one or simply this is how he is defending his learned craft by being regressive, therefore he is indeed a kind of Luddite.
IMHO musical creation, but in fact any creation should be free from any possible hindrances and/or regressive attitude as creativity and to create is all about freedom. It needs freedom. The more freedom the better it is to any advancement and without freedom there is no potential advancement.
