Hello guys. Hope y'all are doing well. I'm working with some producers and clients and they're all using pro tools and I feel like being sucked into it. I wanna buy a perpetual version of "Pro Tools Studio", but I wanna know if I'll be able to use the daw normally after that one year of updates and so on... I'm a Studio One user but I don't own it, so should I buy Pro Toos? Since I don't own any DAW I'd be okay using PT, but I need more info, because seems Avid is a greedy company and I don't wanna burn my money with such companies.

Yes, you will still own that perpetual license, but you won't receive any updates to it after the one year is up, unless you purchase an update plan

 

thats the real question

 

If you're concerned with Avid's greed but really need that kind of interaction with clients/paroducers, why not use a cracked version? Shouldn't it be backwards compatible to some extent? (although you may miss some of the new features, but is it really such a big deal?). Genuine question, i'm very behind on anything Avid so i have no idea.

If you have enough money and/or you are absolutely sure you'll make enough money with it to justify the purchase then sure, why not?

Avid has no Perpetual licenses, this is a deception.
The latter for real Perpetual is v.12.5.2.

 

Sometimes at the beginning of the year they sell reinsratement plan. Or eBay.

You just enter your avid.com account and on the tab where you find your product license, you-ll have a chance to upgrade your old perpetual license for another perpetual license with an upgrade plan for a year. It costs $349.

Unfortunately, cracked PT has never been fully implemented and you can never trust them for professional work.

Like others have said, if you feel that you will earn enough on it to justify the price, then sure.

It's so common these days that everyone uses different DAWs that I feel it shouldn't matter which DAW you use, you can still work on the same projects, but in your respective DAW. AAF and XML files can be used to share projects (although it's not really perfect), and for track info that can't be shared through those formats it's usually just best to render/consolidate those tracks. I know that some people in some circles still insist that PT is the industry standard and no other DAW should be considered, but that times has passed long ago.

 

You can upgrade at Sweetwater.

 

Actually I upgraded my ProTools 9 perpetual to the latest ProTools Studio this year. I know I only have 1 year support but that's all I need.
