I would like to mount a Kontakt sample library that downloaded as an 8.25GB .ISO file. When I try to burn it onto a double-sided DVD disc, my burning apps tell me there is not enough capacity (only 8.12GB) even though the disc says it's capacity is 8.5GB. Any ideas what the hell can I do to make this work? Thank you.

I of course could mount it virtually, but I'd like to save it to disk to store it for backup, transfer, etc. By the way, I meant to say it's a double-layer DVD, not double-sided, sorry. I guess I could split it up into two regular DVD's, but I'd rather have it on just one. I wonder what form it is when the dev/s ship it? If they ship it on one disk, how do they do it? If I do decide to split it up will that screw up the Kontakt library when I go to install it?

You might be able to burn the ISO as a multi-disc (spanning the ISO over multiple discs)

i ve also seen some libraries that were more than 8 gb for disk (fxpansion if i m not wrong).
i think the best thing u can do is save the iso on an external drive if u don t want tostuff your computer with something u just need in phase of installation.any other solution would mean extra work.for example, opening the iso, extracting the files, compressibg thae folder where u saved them to a size that fits a dvd and finally burn it to disk, but this would mean that if u have to install it again u gotta insert the disk, copy its content to your pc,extract it and install.
    is it worth it?

The "8.5GB" the disk advertises is 8,500,000,000 bytes, which is about 7.91 GB. So you won't be able to burn it. (manufacturers count 1kb as 1000 bytes, but the useable capacity is counted as 1024 bytes)

Same goes for Hard Disks. "1Tb" HDs only hold about 943GB, and so on.

You might be able to extract/edit the ISO and delete some useless files such as foreign-language manuals, videos, etc.

I can give you an advice how I handle my back-up's.

Since I had some issues with CD's not reading anymore, because of any reason.
I had enough and started to back-up on hard disk's.
They have more then one advances !

The back-up and transfer time is much faster.
The data is quick available and always readable.
I can take many Gig's of data with me wherever I go.

Whenever I have to reinstall, I do my installation directly from this back-up disk.
No CD/DVD reading time and so on that slows everything down.

And one advice you have to keep in mind for digital data is:
If you don't have it twice you have nothing !!!
So I keep one back-up disk in my PC and one outside.

I have a little nice LG USB-SSD-Card with 1TB for a few bucks.
On this external disk is my complete PC backed up too.
    All projects, software and samples.

I'm a very nervous person regarding my data.
Only this way I can sleep well...

    What can happen to two back-up's ??? Hahhahaa...an earthquake...pffft...???!!!???
Where is this shaking now coming from ???

all the real software i have seen is on 4.7gb disks split as well just for the record, it's still cheaper for them to manufacture them that way.
