My sister is one of the very, very few that survived being nearly killed by botulism after eating badly canned food while in the country of Georgia while on business there. Upon arriving home in Prague she began loosing the ability to use her body and went blind and could no longer speak. She was tracheostomized and put in a ventilator because she lost the ability to breathe on her own. We flew her London on a Swiss Rega medical jet to the best neurological hospital on the continent where she slowly began to recover and they were able to take her off the ventilator when she could after eight months of total paralysis. Today she is still pretty fucked up and can barely walk with the help of a cane and needs a host of different medications just in order to function at all...and she's lucky to be alive.

A few bites of aged and tainted canned food that cannot be tasted to contain the toxin is all one needs. Hundreds die each year from botulism, mostly in Georgia, but perhaps safer than sorry is the way to go. I know that wasting food should be avoided when one can, but....

Actually, I called it "Taco Tuesday... no specifics implied. It could be Californian fish tacos, Bolivian chicken intestines tacos, Korean squid tacos...

 

Oh but it is sooooo worth it to make your own. I started doing this recently and I will never go back to store bought mayo. Homemade is 10x cheaper and 10x better.

If you use a higher sample rate (24/96) it tastes better but doesn't last as long...

 

I know we all joke around on here, but hearing what happened to your sister kinda puts things into perspective.

I remember there was a botulism outbreak here in the UK about 15 years ago from contaminated eggs. The advice from then on was always make sure they are well cooked. Up until that point I drank eggs ala 'Rocky' style. Not that I built any muscle from them, or ran any faster.. Come to think of it.. I'm not sure why i did that in the first place.. Ahh to be young again!!!

 

Higher sample rates mean nothing compared to analog! ANALOG SPOONS MAKE EVERYTHING TASTE BETTER.

 

Why should I pay for sour cream, it's not like i'm making money from it?
