"Best" is very relative. Depending on what you want to achieve. Different reverbs for different purposes.

Breverb 2 might be good for getting that "80s" sound, but to my ears ReLab 480L and Valhalla Vintage Verb sound a bit better for that. I also tested NI RC24 and RC48 and I wasn't very satisfied with the sound - too artificial and kinda plastic. Same with Toraverb. But Toraverb can be used to make some interesting and unique effects.

2C Aether is probably the best realistically sounding algorithmic reverb IMO, aside from convolution reverbs.

Lexicon PCM reverbs are somewhere in the middle for me. Not sounding as realistic as Aether, but when you put it into a mix it sounds wonderful. However, for that "80s" sound it is not as good as Relab 480L or Valhalla Vintage Verb. <-- my favourites.

    That's my 2p. Cheers! :mates:

If you ask me, Softube made NI RC24 and RC48 and I'm not a fan. It's too obviously an ITB reverb for me.

IMO Blackhole is great for special FX, like Toraverb.

Thanks haha. I have only used Aether a tiny bit. But it was impressive during my time with it. :)

Breverb, Altiberb, UAD Plate140, Lexicon here, all good reverbs

yesterday I ve seen a tutorial where the guy was using eq (I do that from a long time) and compression on a reverb inserted on an AUX. Up to 7 DB of gain reduction. Well, with a stock reverb he was able to achieve a great sounding reverb.

    I will try this soon.

I don't really get it how a compressor can make some bad sounding reverb plugin sound better. If a reverb is bad - it is bad no matter what you do with it. You can only make it sound slightly better with an EQ.

BREVERB has one of the lowest CPUs per amount of control it has (but usually I don't use it because loading the DB takes a while)

See my reverb shootout for a CPU comparison if 30+ reverbs by CPU & GUI size

Sinewave believe me... when I saw the video title, compressing the reverb, I said to my self NO WAY. I ve watched it just for curiosity. But I must admit it surprised me. A lot of GR... I would have never tried anything like that.

Not sure I want my mix to be there. Thanks to Phil Colins, I've had enough 80s reverb for more than a lifetime...

    • Please don't post warez links. Thanks

    I m back
check the tutorial then come back to me
    lol I m kidding

sure the Altiverb is a top sounding one
but again , compression on reverbs is very far from my style, but it seems to work pretty well

then... compression on Altiverb instead of a stock reverb? mmmh... gotta try

Altiverb and Plate140 are my fav ones

It's buried under EDM-everything umbrella and 15 minutes of fame, "me too" over-compressed power ballads.

I will not bother you /w my opinions reg reverb plugs. But as this thread is going on I’d like to ask some Q/ advice. Please HELP!

Have a very poor recording (two of them) of my 12y old nephew playing Grieg piano concerto.

    - a Zoom xy rec from a balcony (seems like the piano is behind the orchestra :/) this has obviously natural reverb (not too pleasant though)
    - a recording from roughly the1 row (very dry, thin and the piano sound vs orch is prominent)

I cannot do any miracles /w these but I found that the mix of the two could be at least “informative” for the entry commission. Now my Q:

    - I would like to add some reverb, just to polish the sound. What would you suggest (convol or algo). As far as convolutions go, I am familiar only with waves IR-1. With others, I’d just have to rely on presets. (and wet dry knob ;P).
    - As the rec didn’t start at the same time, I don’t know the real distance – time delay between mics. Do I align them or try to guess??
    - I think I should treat the two recordings with different amount of rev. Some more on the dry piano and just a tad on Zoom..

I remember I had some IR of bricasti, which sounded nice. Now I found only the presets but not the wavs. I think that Bricasti did not want IR made from their gear to be commercially available.. so any suggestion about where to get them?

I would really help out the young boy. :)

    @Matt777

Sometimes its just better to ditch the recording and do a new one in an environment you can controll.
Sure the recording can be saved to an extent, takes some time and playing around its very hard to tell whats going on just by your writing.
Ed-enam seems to be more of an expert for chamber and orchestral reverbs, pehaps you should pm him.
