The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) said the companies had breached competition rules by restricting online discounting of their musical instruments. The practice, known as “resale price maintenance”, forced retailers to sell instruments at or above a minimum price.

The watchdog said Roland restricted pricing of its electronic drum kits and accessories between January 2011 and April 2018, while Korg did the same for its hi-tech music equipment and synthesisers between June 2015 and April 2018.

Roland was fined just over £4m and Korg £1.5m.

Similar breaches resulted in a £4.5m fine against the guitar maker Fender in January, months after Casio was hit with a £3.7m penalty for the price fixing of keyboards and digital pianos last August.

The Roland and Korg cases mark the end of five separate investigations by the CMA covering major players in the sector, and bring the total fines to £13.7m.

I have not read the article but the question is: Who gets the money? Is it distributed among the buyers that were affected? Or the "watchdog" gets to keep it? If buyers don't get reimbursed, who cares whether the fine is £5.5m or £100 million. Only Roland and Korg. That is no remedy for past byers. Maybe, only future buyers will reap some benefits.

Do I get reimbursed for not buying any of their equipment because I thought it was too expensive, and went with an inferior manafacturer?

Yes and no. The penalty is not so small in these corona times, will it affect anything? 99% of customers will never find out about this but for the Japanese it could be shameful and that could be a bigger penalty for them.
Its also proves that Uli has been fair in his trade compared to some of these big companies, yet they were the ones pointing fingers at him.

Collector's bottle. It is missing the "H" Once they fix it, bottles without it will cost some big bucks. I thing I will order 50 cases.

    Roland & Korg care, exactly.
Surely getting a fine for being naughty is the main point? To deter them.

Sometimes the penalty / fine is too small to prevent further abuse, and is just figured into pricing...
