Gatey Watey is a lightweight but clever gate plugin. Let’s just be honest here for a minute. It’s really hard to get excited about a gate plugin. Part of the reason I have a hard time getting excited about gates is because they all pretty much seem to do the same thing, with some minor differences between different gates. But that’s why we made Gatey Watey. It stems from the idea that gates, even as a utility, can be much better.

Anyway, thanks for the heads up! I like that it's got lookahead and range in addition to standard parameters and gating only certain frequencies sound very interesting. I'm going to check it out!

@Pinkman, thanks for this. I've been wanting to demo a few new gates. I was gating vocals with the Sonitus Gate, but noticed it cutting off the initial transients of each line so I've kind of shied away from it and been doing automation of mute. Mainly to kill headphone bleed while there's no singing going on. Also on Tom tracks and the Snare occasionally if it's not a triggered track. I tried using Drum Gator, but it just seems so damn complicated to get the results I'm after.

PRO-MB in Expand mode with negative range and high ratio does exactly the same. And I think it has a greater range (30 dB)

well it worked today! maybe there servers were overloaded a bit yesterday as I saw this posted on a few sites... thanks Pinkman! I like some of their products, and I really liked how a couple of years ago they called out UAD with their Bark of the Dog plugin etc making fun of the UAD VOG ripoff.... everyone should read or watch that...

 

Yes, I agree too.
But an eq can also do the same as VOG/Bark of Dog. And a compressor+limiter can do the same as a transient shaper.
The appeal in these specialized plugs is the simplification and ease of dialing in the sweet spot. You dont have to set it up for the exact task. Just tweak till its good.
