So I got a pair of Yamaha HS 5 speakers. Today they seemingly broke at the same time. Checked the cables but no luck with that. Light indicators stays dim. What could have caused it?

Are both individually powered? I'm leaning towards not, so that would make sense if there's a power issue with the main unity or the power supply itself.

Maybe voltage disruption, could be blown fuse in speakers

try a different electrical outlet with one of them if it is not on a power strip. if it is on one, make sure it doesn't have a breaker. Then plug it directly into the wall.

Did you buy them new? You should probably still have a warranty.

First, you should check and listen on different days.
Check other devices; perhaps the voltage in your house has dropped! Try a different outlet.

Power surge or overvoltage → A lightning strike, a power spike, or a short circuit in the electrical grid can damage both monitors simultaneously, since they are connected to the same circuit (outlet, power strip, or extension cord). Active monitors like the HS5 have internal power supplies that are sensitive to such events – this explains dim LEDs (the power supply is partially working, but not sufficient for full power) and no sound.

Defective outlet or power strip → If both are plugged into the same strip or outlet, there could be a problem there (e.g., loose contacts or an internal defect).

Yamaha HS series not powering up, dim led. Possible solution(s):

Same happened to me (with much pricier monitors) because I forgot to unplug them during a thunderstorm. Hard lesson.

I would look at your fuses (maybe replace one at first), and if not, it's possible your amps are fried.

If it's the fuses, cheap solution. If it's the amps, cheaper to buy new monitors (and a surge protector).

After confirming that the power supply for each is working & being that the amp circuit is very basic. Someone who is comfortable with a soldering iron could also do a repair using common replacement parts or, by obtaining an amp kit similar to this:

If you bought them used they could have been defective, if new they are under warranty. Always use EMI, RFI spike and surge protection to plug your electronics into they are worthwhile investing in for all your devices throughout your home. Don't get the cheap ones they are inferior quality.

We're only making educated guesses here because of the lack of details in the first post. This is exactly the thing which should get a gpt response. The OP could have a simple diagnostic step by step to diagnose it and fix it. The only problem is, they would need to read actually read it and do it.

Verifying the power source upstream of the monitors could have been done already, and given as info so someone reading has that information. I said test one, because when the first one works again so will the second.

How many pages do you think it will take?
