Overnight Bitwig 4.0 has been announced:

    - Audio Comping
    - Musical Timeline
    - Operators
    - Randomized Expression Spread
    - Export lossless formats (WAV & FLAC), familiar lossy options (OGG & MP3), and a new contender (OPUS)
    - Import data from your FL Studio (FLP) and Ableton Live (ALS)
    - Content sliding (and gain handles for audio) is available directly at the clip and event level with visual handles that appear while you work.
    - Grid and Polymer filters have a smoother response now for extreme resonance and modulation cases.
    - To make audio easier to read, waveforms are now shown in a Perceptual scale (or switch back to Linear in the Dashboard
    - Localization in Chinese, Japanese, and German.
    - Native Apple Silicon support on Mac, even allowing Intel and ARM plug-ins to work side-by-side.

Bitwig Studio 4 Beta is available for download as of today. Everyone with an active Bitwig Studio upgrade plan has access and is invited to download the installer from their account.

The official Bitwig Studio 4 release is planned for the end of Q2/early Q3.

I just love Bitwig. In my opinion, it is the most creativity driven DAW out there, by miles...It's just so fun to use...

I'm glad they're adding comping to it. The lack of it was holding me back from using it for recording.

Agreed. Also, for me it's like Ableton Live with better GUI.

Yep, that sums it up pretty well.

I could never really gel with Ableton, and I've tried it many times.

With Bitwig, it was love at first sight. They really know what they're doing in terms of user friendliness. It's just a joy to use it.

Bitwigs gui is just meh for me, it has to much details compared to Live, while Live is just plain and simple to look at.

Sandboxing of the Plugin is probably the only ace feature, which interests me from bitwig, for everything else Live is good enough.

I dont understand why everybody hates the Live Gui? (its very minimal, contrast is very good and its highly functional.)
    --------

As i can see there is no way to give Bitwig beta in demo mode a test run or can i get the installer from somewhere?

for me they are to much Reason Orientated. The make all the get the Best ModularSynth, but the Editor still Lacks a Chordtrack and Follow modes like Studio One....

We'd have to wait for a deprotected one, as it is locked to license. I haven't paid for the upgrade plan yet so can't grab the installer. The betas don't have the demo mode available. (at least all the older ones didn't)

okay i see, ahhh so actual similar to Ableton, which also has no trail mode in their betas, well actual i think there is, if you edit a small file.

Great then lets wait for a blessed version for v4.

All matter of taste, some prefer windows XP over macOS :)

i'm starting to make a move from ableton to bitwig

just miss the retrospective record now and some kind of low latency mode like cubase to record in big projects without latency.
Hability to search projects in browser, a faster playback samples in browser, and hability to drag samples from projects to outisde bitwig or another sampler.

Small details that make life easier.

Nice! When I tested Bitwig out before buying Reaper I was a bit disappointed it didn't have a easy comping feature. My main DAW's are Reaper, for mixing and tracking, and Ableton for electronic stuff and MIDI etc. Bitwig is an almost perfect mix of those!

How it was shown today on Polaritys stream is you just import it and it keeps the midi and sample information. Of course you don't have the instruments, etc. so you'd either have to bounce to wav for that, or load in new vst's etc

A lot of iOS apps uses the .als format, to make it easier to import samples, MIDI, etc. in to Ableton.
Same for FL and there app, I guess.

I totally agree. I love Bitwig and Live both, but Live feels more like a getting things done DAW (probably because I have much more experience with it).
However Bitwig's modulators put it above everything else for me. Someone said Bitwig is more like an instrument with a DAW interface, and I totally agree.

    I couldn't agree more.

Even when working on traditional, non edm projects, the modulators open a world of possibilities.

For instance, I use the random modulator everywhere to breathe some life into tracks, eqs, comps, saturation, I modulate everything, in small, subtle dosages...It really helps making things sound more organic.

And before someone says "you can do this on X DAW", yes, you probably can, but not as easily and intuitively.
