Yeah good idea.I'm wondering since some months if it could be worth to buy a S950 for my drums(I make especially dnb),or if a EMU E4X(T) would be better, but in 16 bits.EMU 1200(12 bit) is to expensive for me!

I read on another thread that you own a S3200(and 16 bit only I think, right?),isn't it better than all these plugins for the drums?

i got a s3200 and s1100...i must wait for black display to fck with s1100....
i just started sampling drumstation with s3200...:speaker:needed to wait for drumstation a time he he
so i hope end up with a lot of ready to go cut throu mix 90ies shizl drums and all 100%wasgedn
i hate the 909 kit but the 808 kit is great....i wouldnt wonder if yellow drumstation(1year younger batch) sound even better but many say no difference
but cause i hate 909 kit doesnt mean its not good

when you make DNB....get a s950 12 bit or ensoniq mirage 8bit...but also s3200 16bit is good for drums and bass...dont go for xl..their overtones are locked...

with s950 layer bass is also interssting...gives awesome grid on low notes...less bits more grid , maybe...

EDIT i just dunno if you can layer with 950 with s3200 you can..but even when not able to layer...awesome machine...

buy defect 900/950 and try to isolate AD/DA CONVERTERS
when i ever get a defect 950 for cheapo i try it
will make a slutz thread and let them kill me lol
but kidding aside i could ask on slutz if it is able
    i do by time

thats some sort of question everbody must determ by himself...
    also so complex...
many say plugins are faster...the known plugin benefits over hardware...

i will hit you back in few months...must sort it out ..while building proper workspace too and stuff

but many ppl achieve fast results and really good results by using drumsynth and akai sampler
and i incline to this sort of ppl
im a guy i got so no lust to layer kicks out of 3 parts when i can model cool kick with synth fast and sample it to get the crunch without comp,eq or special drum processors

For serum fans: you can modulate parameters for lofi bitcrush etc: Warp mode-quantize reduces bitrate of wave, and the 2 types of sample and hold filter and downsample fx are very crunchy. here's a nasty sounding serum patch to demonstrate
    KRUSHY.zip
plus you can drop samples into the noise section or make low bitrate wavetables...

if you want that real 12bit crunch for a budget, get a eps 16 / eps 16 plus, not that expensive. Emu emax 1 would be nice, too, but more expensive these days, got that sp12 sound. Alot of the classic wu tang tunes been produced on the eps

There is an sp1200 preset also but I think it needs to be tweaked to sound right.

Damn, the prices seems to explode. I saw at least 2 Eps 16-plus a year ago about 300 bucks.
I myself bought a S-950 10 years from now , for 90 euros, sold it for 650 some months ago

Plugin Alliance Unfiltered Audio Dent has several excellent bit crushers algo.
But here is my fav chain for recreating vintage sampler caracter (and it's all airwindows and free) : you put all your chain between ulaw decode at the begining and ulaw encode at the end of the chain (https://www.airwindows.com/ulaw/), and between those two you insert : fracture (https://www.airwindows.com/fracture-vst/ in a very reasonable fashion, it's a soft waveshaper don't push it ! usually I have at 10% wet or something, a bit of "drive" and the "output" pull way down with 2 "fracture"), powersag (https://www.airwindows.com/powersag/, it emulates power supply limitation) and finally the bit & sample rate crusher DeRez (https://www.airwindows.com/derez-vst/) .None of those need to be pushed much to get the sound, ulaw exagarates eveything so you can be gentle.
