I used to make these all the time, almost by accident. Im finding recently that they're not as brainless as I'd assumed and I'm not sure what I'm doing differently

The obvious steps are = waveform -> bitcrush -> lp filter + resonance -> cutoff modulation

Anyone have some specifics that help with making this sound? For instance, a trashy bitcrusher like ableton redux seems to work a lot better than a nicer one like Decimort. I seem to get better results with wavetables or oscillators that use phase distortion rather than a plain old saw, even though it ends up processed to shit anyway.

Any further thoughts, tips?
