I'm gonna update this because I actually used band in a box for about 8 months this year for my country writing, my dad has a lifetime upgrade for it even though I make fun of him for it. But band in the box is very genre specific. If you're looking for 80's style music or country/bluegrass its perfect. I could spend 2 hours writing a piano part or I can pop the chords in band in the box and it'll give me 80% of what I was looking for then just rewrite to taste.

So I'm not totally hating on band in a box. I have 12 country songs written in there that I'm selling for over 4.5k-5 grand. After using it awhile and the work that can be put into it if your good enough no one will ever come up with the same thing you do in band in the box and even then exporting band in the box parts to my other daw for use has many advantages. Like I can play violin/fiddle but its a shit load easier plugging in the chord progression seeing what it comes up with [after 50 attempts and reloading] and then finding buried gold that needs polished.

So even though I still believe in what I said it does have uses.

 

one thing I hate abount BIAB is exporting and importing. The fact the the drums are not midi and cannot be exported and none of the real band stuff can't be put to midi either. There are many times it writes a part I want but I want a totally different sound to say the violin or piano. And the midi will never replicate the live samples it mega cuts. I first started using BIAB over 20 years ago. It was actually my first attempt at digital music when I was 13. So yeah it has it's uses and if the company was smarter they'd have a 20000x better program. I just hooked up the latest model and was happy to see they added a lot more. I still dont like the fact of having to carry extra ssd drives with me. But the nice thing is once the new version is out you got a worthless 1g ssd drive to reformat for your own uses.

 

I'll update it again also. Now you can use Biab as a Plugin in any DAW you can't go past that, to have top studio session musician right in your DAW.
You can also look at ReaTrak, you can share instrument and drum recordings and fit them to your chord track in Reaper, it will also integrate Band in a Box and the Biab Plugin into Reaper.
