lol, such thing exist ? don't care really, but I'm still using the Tera Piano inside Roland Concerto for a long time and it's good enough for me. For Stage Piano sound, I use the Stage Grand preset in Roland Zenology. Of course other 1000000 piano kontakt library from time to time but you asked for VSTi.

To my ears and with some tweakings AIR Music Mini Grand sounds better than 4Front .

i have pianoteq, truepiano, ezkeys and ivory also some other kontakt stuffs .. i'd say each instrument have different nuance and tone, you have to try by yourself and see if it fits your style.
for me, my weapon of choice would be Pianoteq and Ivory also the Grandeur

its just 1GB installed and sounds very good for that size and for a synthetic algo piano.

I really wanted to like Pianoteq cause it's much more expressive than sample based libraries but the lower register still sounds too harsh and synthetic. You have to use a lot of EQ to make the low keys sound any good, at which point you might as well use a sample library that sounds great out of the box. I guess it's nice if you're a pianist and want something that responds to your playing, but if I want something that sounds good and sits well in a mix, I still use sample libraries. That being said I think physical modeling has a lot of potential and I definitely wanna see it improve.

    DecentSampler (free)
    + Kawai UST-7 (free)
or Claustrophobic Piano (free) My Favourite piano.

If you already have Kontakt installed you can either use:
    - Claustrophobic piano (free)
    - Bluthner Style 6 (free)

    Just incredible sounds for free.

Each piano has its own character that it is appropriate to use it for some compositions and not for others: there is no right VST for any song.
For example Korg M1 or Nordlead are perfect for house music. In a sample based piano instead, we find all those extra details that a piano synth cannot have, and which is interesting to have for example in a soul ballad, or a cinematic track. For this kind of music I could recommend The Giant, The Grandeur, Alicia Keys

I think hard disk space + cpu consumption + expression that you can never match with samples I usually play my stuf I rarely draw midi + ability to customize + range of models is more important to me than some extra processing and mixing to fit it in the mix ( which I usually do anyway regardless of the source)

    A piano "in the mix"?
To me almost any if not any of the above mentioned will be fine.

    Piano solo?
It heavily depends on your taste, playing style and type of keybed (if weighted, key downweight, etc).
I love physical modelling at the same way i dislike (huge) samples, so I would vote for Pianoteq and Truepiano, but that doesn't means they are better than any sample library around.

Well I didn't find it particularly harsh, but yes on some piano brand EQ could be improved.
I don't like much the renowned Steinway, I prefer Petrof and Grotrian.
And by the way depending on your keybed you can get very different feel just increasing dynamics (try 70dB) and/or velocity curve.

Please no. I'm not speaking of sound quality, but they heavily messed something with dynamics and sustain pedal, while the three (Grandeur, Maverick, Gentleman) are a joy to play.
