Funny you should mention it. I just used Strum GS-2 on a project and really liked the results:

    - though I had to keep the onboard compression set to a minimum, or it was too distractive and scratchy. But it's not that complicated/complex, which enabled me to get right to the point.

AGML Ample Guitar Lite II is also good (and it's free):

Native Instruments' Acoustic Guitar Strummer is also very good - but more complicated and expensive.

    MusicLab isn't bad.
Acoustic Guitar — Ilya Efimov Production.
Indiginus Torch Electric Guitar very nice.

I am not such an expert, but I used Ilya Efimov Acoustic Guitar and Ilya Efimov Nylon Guitar for a while (both for Kontakt). Those sounded great to me, but the second was my favorite.

As with all these 'best' questions it's subjective, but AmpleSound gets another vote from me.

    yeah, I agree with ProTools10!

I'm a guitar player and, with my Martin D35, I've obtained better results than NI Acoustic Strummer, that is the best strumming Vsti, for me.
From both technical and artistical point of view.

I think at this point nobody ever said otherwise but that's not what Op is looking for.

I guess it depends on a lot of things.

If you intend to use the guitar in the background, just to improve the rhythmic foundation of your track, there are many plugins that would work just fine.

I like AAS Strum Acoustics and MusicLab Real Guitar, for their small size, simplicity and intuitive strumming mechanics. Both can sound pretty good if you give them a little love (eq, saturation, verb, delay)

However, if you intend to use the guitar as a main instrument in your mix, then there's nothing like the real thing indeed. There are so many variables involved in playing a guitar, specially tempo and dynamics variations, that's impossible to represent it accurately via plugin.

there is no substitute for a talented guitarist, but if you watch the vir2 acou6tics video posted by index above, you can see that it is possible to "come close". i shudder to think how much tweaking of the midi files was done to achieve those results though.

Stopped watching after "Incubus - Drive" parody. Not even close. Strum sucks hard on every Virtual Guitar wannabe instrument. And they're selling this crap for 400$. Even cheap 100$ guitar with cheap microphones will sound better. And it's not "imho". It's fact. Deal with it.

Just find some used fender A/E guitar on ebay. It will be cheaper and better. Peace.

Yes But he is asking for VST !!! Other wise everyone knows that nothing comes close to live ! I myself personally play live guitars for my productions + I layer some VST guitars with it and it gives to music some spetial flavour !
