What would be the best soft synh to make a "real" master-slave hard sync? It would be superb if it had also a nice self oscillating filter.

I'm not looking for a static sound. I'd like to pass from nice sine (or sine-sqr) wave and gradually hard sync it (not too much). So my priority is the "quality" of the sound (can I say antialiasing..?). I think something like Omni can NOT do it (don't even know the wave of the "fantom" master osc). Tried the Prophet since it's the legend of hard sync (not convinced though - probably my fault since not too familiar) and the ACE (not a fan of u-he stuff, but the best so far..) about to try Z3TA+2

    ANY opinions welcome!

ps: oh, and the self osc filter would be top. Monark is nice! (never thought that souch quality sound can be achieved in Reaktor) but afaik no hard sync on mini..

    Roland JX-8P.
Or its relatively new soft brother PG-8X free for Win or Mac.
Of course there are many other options but this one sounds *typical hard sync* and it's the first that comes into my mind.

@fiction Just listened to some patches.. never would've thought about this one - sounds nice! even if it wasn't free(?!) Thanx, will definitely try it!

(just wanted to add: not searching for an emulation - like I want The Cars sound or something.. - so it can be anything)

I'm not completely sure what result you're aiming for but the best help I can be is by posting this video. Please sit through the first minute or so because this sound is probably not all what you're aiming for. But after his example he explains what oscillator sync is (probably not applicable to you) and gives a couple of examples on soft synths that could achieve such results.

Long story short, you're probably best looking at an FM synth, like Sytrus or FM8, or a wavetable synth with a sync mode like Massive or Serum. I don't know of any real subtractive synth that can achieve what you're looking for. But then again I'm not big into subtractive synths because Sytrus, Harmor and Serum are just so much fun to me and I really don't use pure subtractive synths all that much anymore. Except for Serum I suppose because deep down it still operates on subtractive synth principles.

Hard Sync is a very simple thing. You take 2 OSCillators - A-master, B-Slave. They usually put a saw on Slave. Now you take the Master (that doesn't make any sound) - usually square and you route it to Slave. The Master (square) resets the Slave (saw) every time it completes it's cycle, so if the frequency of Master is different than the freq of the Slave it does NOT let the saw reach it's peak - instead it "restarts" it and you get out something like this:

It was first probably made with modular synths. So it's definitely primarily a subtractive synth thing. You can do it (sort of) in Serum and Massive and even in Omnisphere. But here is my point: i'm not looking for a synth that can do it (there are tons of them), but that can do it good, smoooth ;) and I dont think the solution is in wavetable ones but in those with high quality OSCillators (and clever routing)

    Aa
Aaah yes, the Pro One :)
Once U-He will have their new emulation done, I'm really looking forward to find how much it will add to today's virtual synth world!
