What is the best simple mid/side EQ with low cpu usage? I've looked at the EQs by Eventide and Sonible, which are loaded with features, but quite complicated to use? What is the best "back to basics" option?

Pro-Q 3 - contrary to popular belief if you can't do your stuff with it, you need to work on ears or monitoring.

If you are using Live, the EQ Eight is a proper mid/side eq with oversampling. All other DAW stock EQ can work in midside I think, or else Pro-Q3.

Note : Live EQ Eight has cramping on the high end, enable oversampling (High Quality Mode) remove it.

what can be "bested" aside a simple eq with a mid-side routing actually ? :dunno: it's just a matrix, a mini mixer which inside one canal is getting the mono of the incoming signal and the other the "difference" (opposed phase from L or R) before being summed up again.

It can be easily set up in Live if you're using it I can show you how to do, and thus you could use any fx/vst you want.

I use FL Studio and I don't think the Parametric EQ2 plugin has mid/side unfortunately...

    NI Passive EQ :)

Personally, I like the ones that force you to use ears instead of eyes.

I would say calling these two "simple mid/side EQs" is a stretch...

I'd say they are pretty simple and straight-forward. You can also go complex on their a##.

With any free M/S encoder (like Voxengo MSED) you can use any "simple EQ" in M/S mode. You can use the simplest 3-band EQ if you want.

I'm only saying this, because he specifically asked for, I quote, "the best 'back to basics' option" :)

Yes. It's all subjective. To me ApQualizr2 is "back to basics". It's intuitive and simple and quick (just like EQuick).

Yeah, I mean that could work, it's just sort of a hassle. Even if I saved the patcher preset I'd still have to click through all the different windows :/

I should mention I have a plugin that does exactly what I want in 2 clicks called "Equilibre". The only thing wrong with it is that it EATS cpu like a mofo.
