I also use mediabay in cubase and sometimes resonic.. I have 2x2Tb for samples, but those are mainly Kontakt, none of the organizers haven't worked for me, always scanning problems.. maybe I should give another ride, since it's been few years

i tend to rather mangle sounds to stack up to many. For me there is so much you can do with a single hat for example.

I get the point of classic sample libraries, those do contain some very cool obscure sounds, nobody today would ever release again, simply because they are not clean enough or to obscure.

yeah drums are a lot to shape a sound of a genre, if m making EDM Trap, Amapiano, GQOM, pop etc. I have my core sounds. but when im looking for cool obscure sounds or elements. Having all these samples to start from, preview them in key and in time with loopcloud its a super fast workflow.

Yes, true! Mediabay is not at all inferior to Soundminer or Basehead, and that's something. Every now and then I use Cubase for clip management to get stuff into Pro Tools when I'm fed up with Sound Miner.

Yes, Mediabay is a part of Cubase or Nuendo and even comes with Cubase LE? (not sure).
Whatsoever... A Soundminer License is more than what you pay for cubase pro... yes, it is strange to have cubase run besides Pro Tools or any other DAW just for Sample Management, but thats something you can do. I do run Cubase every now and then to look for a clip in the mediabay to drag and drop it directly to Pro Tools' timeline from Cubase' mediabay. Now just immagine what a company like Avid with all that annual subscriptions could do... like .. programming something like a mediabay.. or a decent n-channel panner... or macros. My god, with a lot of monney the possiblilities would be endless.. Yeah, right, they actually do have a lot of monney... Never mind.

Mediabay is highly underrated, however Soundminer still edges it out, but only worth it if you have a large SFX collection, and more so if one is diligent about properly tagging their collection according to the UCS specification.

I have to agree with those who've mentioned XYPlorer, it's been my day to day file organiser and sample manager for a decade now and I can't imaging being without it. I bought a full pro license and it's so good that my wife bought one too. The developer, Don, is absolutely fantastic and listens to users and often develops suggested features.

As for dedicated sample managers, I also have a lifetime 'pro' license for Resonic but haven't opened the software for 3 to 4 years now. Resonic is, if I'm being honest, very poor. It's little more than a glorified audio player. I laughed a few minutes ago because for the first time in years I looked at the Resonic 'roadmap' page and it says that exactly the same things are planned for the future that were planned years and years ago. There's little change. Everyone is different I know, but for me Resonic was a waste of money and a waste of time.

Another sample manager that I do use is Sononym. Again, I know we're all different, but Sononym is way better than resonic, there's just no comparison. With Sononym you add files to a database and can search for similar samples and add them to various categories. Overall, Sononym is excellent. Resonic has had similar functions on the roadmap for years but none have appeared and I've no confidence at all that they ever will.
