I tried to scan my collection of samples (460 GB in size). Unfortunately Sononym gets sluggish even at this amount of stuff :(

You could try 1by1 folder player. I use this, and it doesn't care how many samples you have in the parent/root etc. folder. I like this program in conjunction with a couple of others, and it's tiny! Make sure that you copy the third-party BASS add-on into the 1by1 root installation folder. If you want to try it see links below :

    https://mpesch3.de/1by1.html
https://www.un4seen.com/ (<--- use the BASS 32-bit version. It's just one dll. Copy it to the root directory of 1by1)

Also, REAPER's audio/midi browser is great.

Resonic pro is the best for me. it's no just a sample manager but also can be used as a sound design tool. If you're working by example with modular plugins, or jamming with instruments for long time, then you can have all your recorded sessions and just take in second samples you need and ajust them as your linking, even transform them in very fast and efficient way. Then just grab it to your daw. You can ask to try the licence few times, 4months each times, the creator is very open. Very nice software !

It's a great accessory for sample/sound-searching, but generally I use Reaper's Media Explorer, though.
When installing samples on my system, I sort them myself, so they're easier to find.

Well I imagine it has something to do with what cpu you are running it with.... care to share that?

I'm on m3 max, and while I imagine it's not gonna be a quick scan regardless, I'd imagine it will go faster then some of my older systems...

but also as just mentioned, I'm on macOS, so that kinda also limits certain choices in terms of this...as I don't believe things like ReSonic Pro are available to me...

Looks interesting SineWave, reading their literature and quick search, I can't tell 'how' they do their managing or sorting, as some go by names and some use "ai"/machine learning etc..... but looks like a decent tool, especially if you have done some pre-sorting yourself already...

ha, yeah, getting older can suck or you can just not care and age well.. ;). And while I don't have any age restrictions or whatever silly ass shit (except no minors obviously!), sadly, most of the women I have dated in the last decade or more were born after you sadly.... (not necessarily ~much~, but... sigh... is what it is I guess....)

I don't know man, if you closely read the Big Fish EULA's, I wouldn't be using ANYTHING they make for a commercial release or anything that could end in blowback, as their terms are ridiculous, and while I'm not saying this is what is happening when you use it, but it's not a stretch to imagine Big Fish Audio "OWNING" any sample you run through their manager etc.... they are pretty much pos's....

Not directly a sample 'organizer' but a playable sample finder, favourite list creator:
    https://monkeyc.audio/pages/rando
it even has a build in sequencer which lets you try samples in conjunction, quite useful for hihats etc

Okay, since I am on Linux, I tried this one out. I have 175 Gb of WAV to be scanned. It is working now for more than 3 hours and it is still not finished. I have no idea what the program is doing but it seems a "bit" long....:dunno:

Can't condone use of something that requires keeping an active internet connection to a production box. No matter how good it may be...

By the same dev who does UltraSearch. If the samplesort tool is anything like Ultrasearch it must be superfast at finding stuff. How many media file types does it support? Does it have mouse roll-over playability?

sure thats another way. But Rando is more playing than clicking and can do alot more fun stuff.

I use it standalone without DAW to just play around and collect favourite samples.
Try it , it is a lot of fun :)

It can even play apple loops (which contain midi and audio)

I just use the built in ableton sorting and tagging now. If you use ableton and haven't upgraded to 12, i would.
